PSU won an incredibly close 25-6 match against tough Nebraska team. Only one PSU wrestler won a major decision--Roman Bravo Young. To give you an idea how close things were, Vicenzo Joseph's 2-0 victory came from an escape and riding time--no takedown. Bo Nickal got a 3rd period wake-up call in which he allowed his opponent to escape and grab a takedown. Nickal's 8-6 win is the first time this season that he hasn't earned extra team points for a fall or superior decision. Jason Nolf and Anthony Cassar had convincing wins, falling just short of major decisions. Here's the GOPSUSPORTS write-up: gopsusports.com/news/2019/1/20/wrestling-no-1-penn-state-dominates-no-7-nebraska-in-25-6-big-ten-win.aspx Of note, Shakur Rasheed did not wrestle, the announcer said he was "nicked-up."

Not looking to get into a pointless back and forth, but I would say "hard fought" rather than "incredibly close." PSU won 8 of 10 bouts: Devon Schnupp wrestled tough at 125, as always, but was outmanned, as almost always. Mason Manville filled in at 184 and was game, but just too small against the no. 5 ranked Venz (Manville usually wrestles 165 and weighed in today at 168). A number of the non-bonus matches were due to Nebraska's reluctance to wrestle, especially Berger vs. Nolf and, to a lesser extent, White vs. Joseph. Both Cornhuskers would have been hit with a couple of stalling points if I had been officiating. But Lee, Hall, and Nickal were all closer than they should have been, in my opinion, although in Bo's case it was because he was looking to hit a big move rather than just wrestle methodically for a wider point margin. All that said, PSU needs to wrestle better than they have the last two matches to take down Michigan and Ohio State. I think they will.

I agree with you on "hard fought" versus "incredibly close" -- though I get where gnu was coming from -- if those close contests had gone Nebraska's way, score could have been incredibly close. I have wondered the last couple of matches whether Penn State is a bit gassed right now -- really working hard in the room with not as much left for the matches -- or whether maybe they've had several wrestlers under the weather. Regardless, they will have to wrestle better.

I was lazy in my summation. What I meant to say was that is was as close as a 25-6 match could be. Yes, PSU won eight out of 10 matches, but only three of the eight wins weren't nail biters. Wisconsin's and Nebraska's wrestlers are/were consummate stallers--or the refs were blind to their efforts. Mason Manville deserves a medal for valor for wrestling-up the last two weeks and only giving up two 3-point decisions. I think Nyline's observation about the team being "gassed" may have some validity. Whatever the case, I'm hoping the team perks up next weekend as they travel to Indiana.

GOPSUSPORTS posted an article highlighting Vincenzo Joseph's efforts against Nebraska on Sunday. Here's the link: gopsusports.com/news/2019/1/21/wrestling-joseph-rides-out-white.aspx . The article also has quotes from Coach Sanderson about how close things were and the team's apparent lack of "fire." He did indicate that he saw the team's effort as an improvement over "last week"--possibly referring to the Wisconsin match. On the Good News front, it appears that all of the season's remaining matches will be on the BTN or BTN2GO; even the season ender when PSU hosts Buffalo.

Did you all see the recent article about Teasdale wanting to transfer out? I think he entered his name on the transfer wire.

Teasdale has a lot of issues. I wasn't surprised when he left PSU during the first semester and even less surprised that he's transferring.
I wish him the best wherever he goes, but I don't think he's cut out for college, especially as an athlete. He just doesn't have the self-discipline necessary to be successful.

Well, it didn't start out well. Schnupp lost. And then Roman Bravo-Young lost, rather convincingly. And, RBY may have injured himself--twice--in acrobatic attempts to get free, Nick Lee came out and got a major decision, Verkleeren won a decision, and then Jason Nolf got his 55th career pin to move the team score to 13-6 at Intermission.
Not sure if RBY will wrestle on Sunday--or next week. We'll see.

Yes. PSU won the match 30-10. I was just posting before intermission. After intermission, Vincenzo Joseph collected a 2nd period pin and Mark Hall won his match 6-2. Franny Bisono, wrestling for Shakur Rasheed, lost in a major decision. Bo Nickal and Anthony Cassar both earned major decisions to finish the match. Bo seemed upset with the refs and his opponent and was not quite willing to shake hands.
I'd have to say that the last few matches have featured a lot of uncalled stalling by PSU's opponents. I get the feeling that the B1G is tiring of PSU's dominance. Two weeks from now in Columbus should be interesting.
I'll post the GOPSUSPORTS link when it's available.

I just watched the 125- and 133-lb matches between OSU and Michigan--they were on BTN Friday night. PSU will be luck to be down 6-0 after the first two matches against Michigan. Michigan's Stevan Mcic, ranked number 1 at 133, is a beast. At 141, OSU has number 2 ranked Joey McKenna who is putting a whuppin' on Michigan's number 5 ranked Kanen Storr. McKenna gets at 3rd period tech fall. At 149, OSU has 3-ranked Micah Jordan facing unranked Malik Amine--Jordan win 17-4. After 4, OSU up 9-7. At 157, 11-ranked Alec Pantaleo from Michigan vs 7-ranked Ke-Shawn Hayes. Pantaleo wins 3-2, Michigan up 10-9. One sixty five brings OSU's unranked Kaleb Romero against 7-ranked Logan Massa from Michigan. Massa wins 6-2 over a stalling Romero. Michigan up 13-9. Michigan's 3rd-ranked Miles Amine at 174 goes against OSU's 20th ranked Ethan Smith. Amine wins 3-2 with a late takedown. Michigan up 16-9. OSU comes back at 184 with top-ranked Myles Martin against Michigan's Michigan's unranked J.T. Correll. Martin up 13-4 after 1st period. 18-7 after 2nd period. Martin gets Tech Fall. Michigan clings to 16-14 lead. OSU's 2nd-ranked Kollin Moore hopes to get OSU the lead against Michigan's unranked Jackson Striggow. Moore wins 12-5, but misses major decision. OSU takes lead 17-16. At 285, OSU's 17-ranked Chase Singletary against Michigan's 7-ranked Mason Parris. Parris wins 5-3 and Michigan beats Number 2-ranked OSU 19-17.
Not sure who the announcers are, but one of them is a shameless OSU homer.
PSU will have some tough matches against these teams. Nick Lee could be a key to victory, but OSU's McKenna is a machine.
