From what I read on BWI wrestling forum, it seems that Teasdale lost the ability to redshirt because of leaving school the first semester and then coming back. Cale was trying to get a waiver so that Teasdale could redshirt. This would allow them to choose which guy to readshirt. Since Teasdale can't redshirt, Teske will be redshirted.
All the usual suspects were advancing in the early rounds of the Southern Scuffle. Nolf, Nickal, and Joseph all collected falls in their first matches. Mark Hall will be wrestling shortly against some guy from Ohio.

I may well be wrong, but I didn't think that's what went on. What I thought was at issue was when his five-year "clock" for eligibility started -- in August, when he first enrolled, or whether it could be reset to (I think) December 2018/January 2019, if he re-enrolled then. What I read was that the speculation was that Cale's effort to push back the start of Teasdale's clock influenced the decision to not redshirt him.

Sorta what I was trying to say but you said it better Seeing that these kind of things never seem to get out, we'll probably never know for sure. I personally think that Teasdale would have ended up being the better wrestler this year anyway and consequently would have had his redshirt pulled after the scuffle.
Read an article about Joe Lee and he said that Teasdale was a real hammer. My impression from what people have said is that Teasdale probably would move up in weight next year anyway.
Here's the wrap-up for the Southern Scuffle's first day from GOPSUSPORTS: gopsusports.com/news/2019/1/1/wrestling-no-1-penn-state-dominates-day-one-of-southern-scuffle.aspx PSU leads the team standings going into the second day with 11 semifinalists at nine weights. Bo Nickal notched his 100th victory with his third pin and Jason Nolf tied the PSU career record for falls--53. I expect Nolf will be the all-time leader before day's end (2 January).
Lotsa good news to read, so checkout the GOPSUSPORTS write-up.
Big Surprise! PSU won the Southern Scuffle with six wrestlers getting championships. They set a record for the number of points they accrued, and Bo Nickal was selected as the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler---pinning all five of his opponents. Nick Lee, Jason Nolf, Vincenzo Joseph, Mark Hall, and Shakur Rasheed also won championships. Bo Pipher and Anthony Cassar won second in their weight classes (Pipher lost to Nolf).
