PSU lost to Michigan State today by a score of 3-1. A let down, for sure. Anyway, I didn't expect them to get very far this year. They lost too much talent to graduation and the U-20 WWC.
My prediction of the teams that will make the B1G Tournament: 1. Minnesota 2. Penn State 3. Northwestern 4. Rutgers 5. Michigan 6. Nebraska 7. Wisconsin 8. Ohio State
Note: Assuming that Minnesota (vs MD), Penn State (vs tOSU), and Northwestern (vs IL) all win their final games and that there are no upsets in the other matches. Also, I'm assuming goals scored is the first tie-breaker for top 3 (we have a 3-way tie for first place right now between UMn, PSU, and NwU).
Some hope for 2017: Next year PSU will be stacked (getting back the five U-20 players, who've taken a redshirt year off). In addition to the 2 international freshmen they added this year (Fisk and Freigang). And we will be getting 2 more excellent freshmen (Tagliaferri from U-17's and Moyer from U-18's). PSU will only lose one senior starter next year (N. Driesse), so I'd say 2017 looks primed for another run.

Sorry to report that the PSU WoSo team lost in the first round of the B1G conference tournament to Rutgers by a score of 0-2.
I didn't expect the team to do much this year, just too much talent missing to the USA Women's U-20 World Cup team.
The Nittany Lions will now wait for the NCAA Selection Show on Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. (EDT) to see if they get a spot and where they land in the bracket.

I suppose a loss to Rutgers is not at all embarrassing, but to me at least, it was a surprise. Hopefully, the team will be invited to play on, and give this very young team some more valuable experience.

Perhaps payback by Rutgers for the two wins we got against them late in the 2015 season (B1G final and NCAA semis). We had played them a couple weeks ago to a 2-2 draw, so I knew they were going to be tough. I was surprised we couldn't score at least 1 goal.

I have been waiting breathlessly for Millenium's report on PSU's at large bid .... Guess I will have to do my own research. (Talk about slacker staff!) I was waiting all morning, I had forgotten that the clocks went back for everyone... except me. Then I got caught up with work and couldn't get back to this until now. Anyway, it looks like we caught a really tough sub-regional bracket. Not that any sub-regional is easy. We are in the same sub-regional as #1 ranked Stanford; I really don't believe we can get that far with this team. Our 1st round match is against Bucknell. They have a good record (16-1-2), but play in a weak conference. I think we can beat them. Our potential 2nd round match is a knockout punch IMO; we would face #3 ranked Virginia (13-4-2), who play in the ACC (toughest conference). If we were to beat VA (talking dreamland here) we would face either #2 Georgetown (I'm surprised they got a #2 ranking) or Rutgers. And if we were to beat Georgetown/Rutgers (I'm really rolling the dice here) we would face #1 Stanford in the Regional final. I have uploaded the bracket PDF here: soccer-women_d1_2016.pdf (81.42 KB) , which you can download.Or just click on this link: www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/soccer-women/d1

Thanks Millenium for your analysis. I have not seen non BIG teams play and appreciate your views. Virginia is always tough. However, the dice we roll in soccer is more like a four sided object than a cube. Lesser teams can pull off an upset a bit more easily than in other sports.
I gather that the games are played at the higher seed's home (until the semi finals?), and hence we would have to win in Cavalier land to advance.

There are a lot of good teams in the tournament this year. At least a dozen teams, IMO, can win it all. Yes, you are correct, highest seed always host, until the final four, which is in California (neutral site) this year.
