I have not seen Virginia play. The ACC is a tough league generally, so Virginia's conference record and overall ranking suggest that we shall have our hands (er, feet?) full.
Millenium, do you have any insight on how Virginia plays?
Work has been pretty consuming of late, so I doubt I will be able to watch the video-or at least very much of it.

Let's put it this way, in the tournament prediction contest I picked Virginia to win this one. Their losses and ties were against top tier opponents, who also happened to be in their conference. PSU has let me know too many times this season, against mediocre opponents. VA is a well coached team with loads of talent. They like to posses the ball, and we will be chasing them all game long. Who knows, though, soccer is a funny sport and coach Dumbach is very defensive minded. We could sneak out a win, but I highly doubt it. Although, we do play on neutral soil (Georgetown), anything can happen.

Again, appreciation for your insight. In past years, I have often felt that PSU has been overly offensive minded-for example, it was not unusual to see a 3 back alignment. The team then scrambled in a disorganized way to respond to opponent counters, and we had to rely on the keeper to sweep things up. Such approaches were adjusted for the tournament and you are right, at the end of last year, things seemed more organized, likely due to the quality of our mid field.
The games I have seen this year featured a somewhat more conventional 4 back with a close by defensive mid fielder. The offense has been slightly more counter attacking, which I guessed was due to the number of key players away with the National team. As always, such strategies will vary based on quality and capabilities of the opponent.
Hopefully, I can steal a few minutes to watch part of tomorrow's game.

Just tuned in. Down 2 to nil. Yep, they ended up losing 3-0, unfortunately, but I didn't expect them to win this game. Next year will be a totally different story. They will certainly be in the mix for another championship. Last post on this thread.

Since you started the thread, I guess you get to make the rules. However, I spent a few minutes this morning watching the U20's and saw our Emily Ogle battling Ghana. Could not watch until the end but it looked like our ladies were expecting to advance to the knockout stages.
Hopefully, when re-enrolled, our missing athletes will have benefitted from the experience.
Thanks for tracking this year's team. I await threads on Women's Lacrosse and the improving basketball team.

I await threads on Women's Lacrosse and the improving basketball team. Sorry, I just now saw your post. Definitely no rules to follow, post as often as you like. I only meant that there was nothing else for me to report on the soccer team since they lost in the 2nd round. I have been actively following all our girls at the U-20 FIFA women's world cup. We tied Ghana, which was good enough to go through to the knockout stages in 1st place from our group, which means we have to face Mexico tomorrow night. I am a member on the BigSoccer Forum and usually post my soccer stuff there. The USA defeated Mexico today by a score of 2-1.
However, we were thoroughly outplayed for about 80 minutes. We got very lucky with 2 late goals. We will face Korea DPR in a couple days.
