Twelve women’s volleyball players were featured among the 100 greatest athletes in Penn State history, according to a ranking released by the Penn Stater Magazine in its July/August issue. Here’s how Russ Rose’s Nittany Lions were listed:
Megan Hodge (6), Lauren Cacciamani (27), Micha Hancock (32), Nicole Fawcett (34), Christa Harmotto (38), Alisha Glass (42), Lori Barberich (46), Bonnie Bremner (52), Salima Davidson (58), Terri Zemaitis (67), Ellen Crandall (74), Haleigh Washington (80).
Senior libero and two-time All-American Kendall White was among 10 current or recently graduated Nittany Lions who are “next on the list.”
Have any grievances with how the athletes were ranked? Let me know in the comments! FYI, linebacker Jack Ham took home the top spot.

(but Megan should have been top three, no question )

Was there any discussion of criteria in the magazine? Listings such as this are highly subjective to begin with. But, as an example, how much weight was placed on post-college career? Some sports had (have) little opportunity for post-college glory. While others, (e.g. football) offer great opportunities for notoriety.
Despite the subjectivity, it does foster discussion.

I agree, Saquon Barkley and Mike Munchak in my humble opinion deserve to be ranked higher.

If Dennis Onkotz comes in at only 100, you know you've got a hell of a list.

If Dennis Onkotz comes in at only 100, you know you've got a hell of a list. And PSU's only Heisman winner is ranked 23rd. Tough competition, I guess.

A lot of silliness on this list, but the greatest discrepancy in my opinion is ranking David Taylor 10 and Ed Ruth 56. In their four years as teammates, Taylor finished the NCAA tournament 2-1-2-1, while Ruth (who was injured in the quarterfinals his freshman season) went 3-1-1-1. I personally think Taylor was the better wrestler, but could not take exception to anyone who preferred Ruth--and there are plenty who do. It is like choosing between Nickal and Nolf. I understand that in a ranking like this, one has to be higher than the other, but it is absurd to have DT 46 spots higher.

Some sports had (have) little opportunity for post-college glory. While others, (e.g. football) offer great opportunities for notoriety. Despite the subjectivity, it does foster discussion. According to the article, post graduate accomplishments (or more accurately, post attendance, since a pitcher from the 1870's who was thrown out of school was on the list) were taken into account. Thus for the number of pro bowls made by the football players, and Olympic accomplishments for the others were identified. The Alumni Magazine acknowledged that it is impossible to get such a list correct. I think they just wanted to acknowledge some of the amazing sports figures that have come through Penn State. And as Seeya quite correctly observed, we are now talking about it.

I think Alisha Glass should be higher, much higher. Higher than the guy who invented the curveball and got tossed from school for (allegedly) stealing goats?
