They no longer have timeouts at 15? I think only in the NCAA tournament

Even though the score was the same, I think PSU looked better in Set 2.

Nice finish to set 3.
I think Blossom really has meshed with the hitters.

This just in: Russ Rose is a genius. No dominant outside hitters? No problem, just feed the middles over and over. The man knows how to get the most out of a lineup.

I wouldn't put too much into today's results. PSU got a lot of production from the middles, but today's teams were just so bad.

That may work for lesser competition but we will need more balance when we enter conference play. Gabby really favored the middles so coaches must have seen something on film. Will be interesting to see the evolution of our OH as the season goes on.

The middles have been getting a lot of work.
There's a lot I have to learn about this game. When Hancock was PSU setter followed by Weiskircher, PSU had some good middles, but both setters seemed to find setting their middles challenging. Consequently, I got the impression that setting outsides was easier than setting middles--now both setters did have exceptional outsides to work with.
So what's the answer? Are those quick sets to the middles easier to execute than moon balls to an outside?
Or is it all situational in which passing, personnel factors, opponent blocking schemes, and a bunch of other factors play a role in a very dynamic situation?
Seems to me it's more than binary.

Holy Cross isn't very good, but Wichita State is typically one of the top mid-major teams in the country. But they are very young this year, after a down year last season. So I think they are better than Hofstra (and definitely better than Holy Cross) but not as good as a couple of years ago, when they hosted an NCAA opening round.
