I'm guessing it means nothing. Now, time for a little trivia. Going back to 2018, just like in 2019, PSU started off the season 5-0 (all 3-0 set sweeps). The significance?
In 2018, PSU allowed opponents to get to 20 or more in 5 sets during that first 5 match stretch. In 2019, PSU allowed opponents to get to 20 or more points in only 1 set.
Their results are improved. Better PSU team? Weaker opponents? Lunar phase? I think this year's team looks a little better. Despite the experience differential, the setting looks more in sync with the hitters this year.
For reference, when looking at the RPI Futures Week 1 rank (same point in time for both years), we see that PSU had an easier schedule (for the first 5 matches) in 2018.
RPI Futures (8/27/19) Week 1 8/24 - E. Kentucky - 201 8/25 - UMBC - 207 8/25 - Navy - 78 8/31 - Temple - 99 9/01 - Texas A&M - 178
RPI Futures (9/02/19) Week 1 8/30 - Hofstra - 66 8/31 - Holy Cross - 268 8/31 - Wichita St - 68 9/06 - Iowa St - 41 9/07 - LSU - 86

Good weekend. Kudos to coach for scheduling choices. Next weekend will be much tougher. Congrats on your 1000th post. Try not to freak out when the Prize Patrol comes by with your Participation Trophy. Thanks! (I am never at a loss for words-or ill informed opinions) I didn't know that the budget had room for trophies. I expect you have 5 or 6 by now.

Our ladies were expected to beat these teams handly. So, no thumping on the chest is needed. Real test come next week with the No 1 team coming in. Whether our ladies have what it takes to be competitive or even dare I say, beat them is something I am anxious to see. Congrats to the ladies and let the force be with you

I'm not sure you understood the point of my posts. I'm only saying there is an improvement from last year, and the numbers suggest the same. No chest thumping here.
We're certainly not at Stanford's level, and neither is anyone else in D1. A 1-3 loss would be respectable and, again, an improvement over last season (PSU got swept last year, at this stage of the season).

The next four matches are going to be real challenges. Pitt took it to Ohio State.

The next four matches are going to be real challenges. Pitt took it to Ohio State. I have a hard time taking tOSU as a serious team. That doesn't mean Pitt won't be tough, just that I don't know how much a win over the Buckeyes means.

I should not have used your comment for my comment. I wasn't referring to your comment when I made my comment. It just was my thought and just happened to grab the one that had something about this year's team being better than last year's. Like many of you, I am an ardent fan and very happy that our ladies are off to a great start. Just wanted not to be too high for last five games and not be too low in case we do not fare well against the better teams in coming weeks. Thanks for your points
