PSU has played quite a few very good second sets this season, holding the opponent to scores in the mid teens or less. But the opponents have come back in the third, scoring over 20, Minnesota breaking through to win the third last week. It can't just be adjustments by the other team. Looks to me that at times PSU isn't playing all out in the third set, wondering why.

You may be right, but I would assume it's a combination of adjustments, and teams simply bearing down, trying to avoid a sweep.

I remember last year, it was set 2 they seem to have a problem with with a few teams taking them over 25 points but they still won those sets.

Adjustments is a broad topic since in includes both strategy and personnel. Coaches, who are down 0-2 at the half have nothing to lose by making major adjustments while coaches who are up 2-0 have little reason to change their approach. Unless you have an overwhelming talent advantage it is hard to win by large margins all the time because of our human nature.
