After the second Pitt match I plan to take a look at the statistics by rotation of this year's squad. In preparation for that here is a look at the current rotations:
Rotation: 1
Server: Blossom
Back Row: Hampton (Cathey if serving or receiving to start the set), White
Front Row: Gray, Parker, Gorrell
Rotation: 2
Server: Cathey
Back Row: White, Holcomb, (Hampton subs for Cathey on receive)
Front Row: Blossom, Gray, Parker
Rotation: 3
Server: White
Back Row: Holcomb, Parker or DS
Front Row: Cathey, Blossom, Gray
Rotation: 4
Server: Holcomb
Back Row: Parker or DS, White,
Front Row: Hord, Cathey, Blossom
Rotation: 5
Server: Parker (sometimes DS)
Back Row: White, Blossom
Front Row: Gorrell, Hord, Cathey
Rotation: 6
Server: Gray
Back Row: Blossom, Cathey or Hampton, (White subs for Gray on receive)
Front Row: Parker, Gorrell, Hord
Coach will sometimes sub a DS in to serve for Cathey or Gray. The only other substitution of any frequency has been Clark for Cathey.
I hope to follow with stats Sunday night.

Rotation | Points Played | Percent Won | Points Served | Percent Won | Points Received | Percent Won | Ro 1 | 275 | 57.5 | 152 | 55.3 | 123 | 60.2 | Ro 2 | 191 | 56.0 | 106 | 49.1 | 85 | 64.7 | Ro 3 | 187 | 56.1 | 105 | 43.8 | 82 | 72.0 | Ro 4 | 206 | 56.8 | 119 | 47.1 | 87 | 70.1 | Ro 5 | 226 | 52.2 | 118 | 44.9 | 108 | 60.2 | Ro 6 | 204 | 56.9 | 115 | 41.7 | 89 | 76.4 |
So, I guess that - so far this season - we would like Rotation 1 serving with Gabby and we would like Rotation 6 receiving as Kendall returns to the floor. And, I guess that -so far this season - we would not like Rotation 1 or Rotation 5 receiving and we would not like Rotation 6 serving with Serena. But, overall, the rotations are close to equal, with Rotation 5 slightly weaker than the rest. so far!
The B1G season can be different from preseason.

This is always so helpful, and often the results are surprising.

It's surprising to hear that we wouldn't want Serena serving. I don't doubt the numbers, but I thought she had a good serve.

It's surprising to hear that we wouldn't want Serena serving. I don't doubt the numbers, but I thought she had a good serve. She does. But when the opposition returns the serve, Serena must play back row defense. Obviously, that is not a strength. It is common practice though to have one of your middles serve and the libero to serve for the other middle.
