Just for the record my issue is with someone posting that the collective wisdom of the DI coaches is "BS" and they somehow know far better who is #1.
I have no idea who should be ranked #1 in the poll and couldn't care less. RPI matters, the poll not so much in seeding for the NCAA tournament.

Not to worry; stimulating discussion is a reward in, and of itself.

I have no problem with either post (#feckless ??) but when one voter (I forget which school, and don't want to guess) leaves Baylor and (I think) Penn State out of their top 25, a reasonable argument can be made that the "collective wisdom" of the D1 coaches is very flawed. IMHO that voter either 1) didn't take the voting role seriously; 2) made a mistake; or 3) has a vendetta against one or both of those schools. My guess is #1. I've heard (unconfirmed) that several/many coaches have assistants fill out the ballots, which if true, means that the "collective wisdom" is even less a measure of the "collective wisdom." In any event, all good.

Sorry. Tried to delete. It is a link to a picture of Carlini that looks pretty funny. tried to delete without success when I realized I didn't know what I was doing! Lol.
BTW, I clicked on it and the FloVolleyball content appears...maybe because I subscribe. Your mileage may vary.
[Note from Nyline: I deleted the post for you. Don't know whether mileage would have varied. Vary very possibe.]

In case you missed it, Stanford lost to Washington on Sunday afternoon. How far will they fall?

Stanford's rank is a real puzzle. They have wins over Nebraska (2), Penn State (5), and Texas (6) with losses to Minesota (7), Washington (8) and BYU (9). Baylor gets #1. It would not surprise me if Stanford only drops to #2.

The Texas match win is tricky; the Longhorns took the Card to 5 at Stanford. I think if it was played at Texas, the Longhorns would have probably won that.
Also, Nebraska and Penn State are probably both a little overrated this year.
One thing is certain, the Card have been getting worse was the season progresses. While other teams are playing better.

Stanford may be regressing, or it may simply be that the wear-and-tear of their unbelievably tough schedule has taken a toll. Just look at Penn State's performance against Pitt at Pitt -- a tough, hard-fought match against a really good opponent -- and then look at its performance against Michigan State -- also a tough performance, but to my (admittedly unskilled) eyes the Nittany Lions definitely had a drop-off after the five-setter against the Panthers. So I'd be very reluctant to write-off Stanford based on the two recent losses. But I would drop them to number 2. And, I agree that Penn State is a bit overrated. Not sure about Nebraska -- I haven't seen them play.

I think Wednesday night in Badgerland will provide a good measure of how the team is. I'm hoping for a surprise, I'm not expecting a win.

Poor chose of words, on my end. Getting worse by their own standards, not that Stanford is worse than others and to be written off.
I've seen 2 Husker matches, and I have been thoroughly unimpressed with them. They're a gritty, scrappy team and win a lot of points with good defense.
I think Cook is good at getting his team to play better than expected.

If I were voting I would take Stanford out of the top five. I agree Stanford has played worse recently. With Plummer playing injured and two freshmen now starting this is not the veteran team some might have expected.
At the moment I would put better odds on Penn State winning the NC than Stanford. HOwever I must admit going into the season I thought Wisconsin would win the B1G and make it to the final four.

As of Saturday evening, Coach Rose was still saying he thought Wisconsin was a favorite to win the B1G. He didn't say the same thing about Penn State.
