Why do you suppose coach mentioned Wisconsin here, when asked about last weekend?

Maybe because Wisconsin's serve gave us such a tough time? Also, Coach's answer about the 2 person receive may imply the level of respect the staff has for the opponent's serving game. If Illinois serves like Wisconsin, then perhaps we need to use 3 receivers more.

Makes sense.
I wonder if a 2 person receiving team doesn't also have the benefit of having less confusion on court as to who go after a certain serve. I recall times when the ball falls between 2 players in a 3 person system, because they were both hesitant to go for it.

I found this comment by Hord really interesting:
I would have thought that most kids would not like that schedule.
I wonder how many others starters prefer the Wed-Sat schedule. Could we see more of it in the future because of more Big Ten matches being televised? Its seems only a few years ago we were hard pressed to find video of half the matches on the schedule.
Also, Hord's comment on the green blob ghost had me cracking up:
Reminded me of this Ghostbusters scene:

Issues about who should go for what balls can both be worked out in advance and then as the play develops ("Mine!!"). Having to move farther distances to establish the base for a pass is a disadvantage. I am often amazed at how often our receivers have to dive to pass a serve (Jenna is particularly good at that). For the most part, international teams use 3 receivers with the OH getting overworked as a consequence. Many college teams do this too, and not surprisingly, we constantly target the hitter to try to wear her out (remember the Stanford match?)
Coach's comments were particularly interesting. He is not only trying to maximize passing efficiency while saving substitutions for the end of games. He is also moving the middles (as well as Jonni/Tori) to different hitting positions to make best use of what he has (McPeak expressed positive surprise at this against MSU). I am once again impressed by the willingness to make adjustments based on personnel available rather than trying to get the players to perform in a pre ordained system.

Sort of what Coach was saying before,"I don't worry too much about what we don't have". If you have lemons, make lemonade. He's very creative in using what he has. Like you said, he adjusts to what he has, which is the sign of a good coach.

So Jojonito's observation about easier communication with two receivers was reiterated by our color commentator last evening. There were two occasions where Kendall and Jenna got in each other's way because the serve was "in the seam." That said, we played the 2 receiver system most of the time against Illinois and only gave up 5 aces in a 5 set match.
