They look like they're bringing it together--last three games have been pretty impressive. If PSU defeats Maryland, Rose will have 1,000 more victories than defeats. That is a cool statistic.

Bryanna continues to provide strong digging, serving and keeps the numbers high for the attackers. Is she properly appreciated?

I think we're starting to see at least glimpses of Beast Mode. Floor defense is really improving right now. If you add nice back row D and very good serving to what PSU already had going, it's the makings of another really good team. All that hard work in the gym that we don't see is showing up in matches now. I thought Ohio State was looking really good at times last night but it just didn't look like they had much chance to win the match. So... Maryland-Rutgers-Iowa and then a measuring stick match against Minnesota.

One interesting comment: Penn State at one point blocked four balls in a row -- the first time they have done that all season. Then they didn't get any blocks the rest of the match.

It seems like Holcomb is getting much better at digging, and she's got that PSU mentality now—don't let anything hit the floor; go all out "Lacy Fuller style." I feel like PSU is playing much more organized nowadays. I rarely saw any glimpses of disorganized play or lack of communication on the court in the past couple matches. Yes, I'm looking forward to the MN match to see how far they've improved this late in the season. It will be interesting. Can't wait.

I think Bryanna is great in all aspects of her game at this point in the season. I really like her attacking mentality. She is a gamer/baller and doesn't back down from the competition; this was a Micha-esque trait. Her only weakness is in setting exceptional balls from bad serves. Of course, this is a skill very few young setters have anyway; it'll take time to develop. As I watch more matches I feel she has a lot of upside to her game; she's only going to get better.

I think Ali is working to be the next Courtney and I think she is getting better, however, teams still target her in serves and kills. Kendall has been playing more and more and her defense is getting much better, remind me of #33 Lacey last year.

Redshirt or not, it's tough being the quarterback of the Nittany Lions...pressure alone can make the best falter. But, if we are to be honest, many of her sets are placed not quite accurately as they should be. Runs by other teams, even in our recent winning streak, have had their origins in a poor set. But, as a freshman 'quarterback', I cannot imagine the pressure and talent she must possess playing at PSU. She is certainly not getting the attention she deserves, but with her development and strength of character, watch out. I think we have a real winning setter, carving out her own niche as she grows, learns, and plays. I look forward to her evolution over the next few weeks, as well as the next few years!

I think Keeton and Kendall combo for the backrow defense is the best option going forward. Once Megan is totally healthy, i feel confident with that lineup.

OSU had a tougher (or better) game plan yesterday than they did Wednesday, designed to control/mitigate the PSU pin hitters. But they can't control the pins and the middles and Megan when she's in the back court all at once.

Looked and sounded great.

Although i love seeing Rose's comments, and I love being there in person -- as i was last night -- i have a hard time dissecting the coaching strategies from my vantage point.
Would love it -- when the sun finally rises in HI -- to hear y'all's insights. I am concluding from the game flow that our players didn't just start doing better at about 16-23 in set 3. Something clicked in, and i suspect it came from the bench. In fact, i think it may be fair to say this one was about the coaches, maybe mores than any others we've seen this season.

Finally finished write-up --some great quotes from Coach Rose (as always). Here's the link: #3 Penn State Tops #11 Ohio State at Rec Hall (#1 USC loses)

Also noted: even though it felt tightly contested, PSU held 4 Buckeyes to negative hitting; the venerated Leon (does that translate to Lion?) only managed 8 digs.

Go back and watch the 2013 National Championship game. Wisconsin put Courtney through the wringer. If Coach Rose didn't think Franti had the potential, she likely wouldn't be getting the opportunities. Last night, it looked like she was becoming more comfortable with the added responsibilities. It was great to see her smiles.
