Well, the 3rd set and 1st half of the 4th set was pretty good. But, they will get better.

Stats are quite misleading. The hitting percentages were quite close, but GT won pretty convincingly. Obviously, there is much work to do.

Well this was a horrible start to the day.
And they have to play St. Johns in 4 hours. A program that made the tourney in 2019 and will be on fresh legs today.

3-1 GT (that is not a reference to gin and tonic, sadly). See you at 4:00 p.m. for St. Johns. I have a feeling there will be some paint peeling in the Penn State locker room.

Did AC really only get brief playing time in 1 set?

IIRC Oerther is way taller than Blossom; Blossom gets some good blocking in but can Oerther do even better? That's a possibility but Blossom has been considered the team's quarterback for a long time and everybody thought she was the greatest.

Did AC really only get brief playing time in 1 set? It looks like the two freshman who showed promise last year barely played today. Maybe Russ trying to keep them fresh for tonight? Suprising.

I think the brightest spot was Holland...filling Gray's shoes by the look of it. 2nd to Hord, She hit.250 6Ks 6B's
We had only 5 hitting > 0: Hord, Holland, AK, Parker, Rollins.
Someone said AK had 3 AEs but I see only 2 on the stats, plus 3 B's

13 Service errors. I expect PSU to do better later today.
It is always a risk to play the first match of the season on the road against a fairly good team. Unexpected stuff usually happens in the first match no matter how much preparation. I'm not worried. PSU has the talent and will quickly get it back together. The only thing that bothers me is the 6-2. It rarely works out. I highly doubt Russ will be using a 6-2 in conference. One setter always seems to be the clear favorite in connecting with the hitters.

In the old days, Russ would have put them thru a 3 hr practice between the games. Just kidding. But I remember one of the players talking about
a four hour practice after a win, because they didn't play very good in the win.

Amen, brother. One stat struck me -- Jenna Hampton led all the DSs with 15 digs. In second place among the DSs was . . . every other DS with . . . zero digs.

And I think that Georgia Tech made the NCAA's last year plus brought back either all of the starters or most of them. You'll notice that GT played 10 players and I think two of them only played in 1 set. So they were just slotting into the same system with the same players as last year.

Definitely an eye opening stat but not surprising considering Russ was playing outside hitters all the way around most of the time. the DS's barely played.
