So, I watched it again. Other than the first set, Penn State played well! Nebraska played better!
Anjelina Starck's play was Parkeresque! She showed good passing, good defense, hard hitting, and intelligent choices at the net.

Boy, I could only find the stats by the link from the schedule. Weren't linked to the gopsusports story for me, or on the stat page. Here's something interesting: Blocks. 9 NE 9 PSU. Of all the 9 PSU players recording blocks, only Hord with 3 and Holland with 4 had more than 1. Also, PSU recorded fewer Attack Errors than NE (18 v 24) and an equal number of SEs, 9. The stat sheet that is available shows a category of Receptions, and Bilinovic has the highest number, 28. Had 2 REs but, her % was high. Also had an assist and 7 digs and got in 9 serves. As I watched I was heartened by what she was bringing. One thing that was indicative of the play was Kills - NEB - 62, PSU - 48. That's a HUGE difference. My impression of the blocks was that although the total number of blocks was equal, there were periods of time where PSU couldn't stop the NEB attackers to save their lives. Which is a combination, I think, of lack of blocking as well as lack of serving pressure. Or, to say it another way, PSU didn't get enough soft blocks. Also, the aces were 8 to 1 in favor of NEB. With on 9 service errors. PSU only had 9 service errors also, but, from what I could see, didn't put NEB under nearly the amount of service receive pressure that NEB did to PSU. But, as Hugh McCutcheon says in a favorite quote of mine, "After a certain point in time, you just have to give credit to your opponent and move on." PSU didn't play really good, NEB did.

I would agree with everything about Anjelina except the hitting. She had some good kills early on, but NEB adjusted to her as the match went on. Anjelina hit .167. 8-3-30. That's not great. I think part of the reason that her hitting percentage went down was that Gabby was setting her a lot in a row because the passing was grim and there was nowhere else to set it. The whole team had problems putting the ball to the floor for a kill. Rollins hit -.062 & AK hit .000. AC came in and hit .067, 2-1-15. Granted, part of the bad PSU hitting was cuz of bad passing/serve receive. But the fact remains, we couldn't put the ball away. Which is why NEB had 62 kills and PSU 48. So I guess I would respectfully disagree. I don't think PSU played that well. Except in the 2nd set; and part of that was NEB had a lot of errors in the 2nd set. One thing that was nice to see that PSU hasn't had in the past; some decent hitters on the bench that could come in when the starters weren't playing well. If RR couldn't have made some changes it would have been really grim.

Haven't worked up the courage to watch the match yet. But, the box score shows something concerning. Fitzpatrick, Bilinovic, Starck, and Menger appeared in all four sets. Pritchard, Kudryashova, Rollins, and Kuerschen did not. Even granting the probability that Eriika is injured, it seems a little late in the season to not have a settled lineup. It will be interesting to see if the lineup returns to normal against Northwestern.
Maybe tomorrow I'll try watching the match to see what the story was!
Coach tried everything and everyone. Neb just better all around, especially on defense and serving.
