Has anyone else been really surprised by the evolution of Serena Gray’s game over the past couple seasons? She’s much leaner and quicker than I ever remember. Amazing to see such a transformation. I have been wondering about the success of our former players ... was there something about the PSU program that slowed their progress? Or is it simply greater maturity and change of scenery which bred apparently improved play? I've been thinking, too. Clearly, with the transfer portal we are living in a different time. Look at our 2022 team. They seemed to love playing for this coaching staff, and that produced an excellent season. Look at their incoming recruits and how they speak of the coaching staff. I wonder what this coaching staff would have done if those who transferred out had stayed at PSU instead. Seems players want to win, practice hard, have fun, enjoy teammates, like their coaches. Or....now they have alternatives.

Let's go Texas . . . or Louisville . . . or, if it come to it, USD! ? What is the source of your animosity toward Pitt? Grew up in State College; PSU 1974-1978; then an MA (violating Sluggo's perspective, although I would not have stayed for a terminal degree). So I guess it is environmental.

I have been wondering about the success of our former players ... was there something about the PSU program that slowed their progress? Or is it simply greater maturity and change of scenery which bred apparently improved play? In the case of Serena Gray, I think it's reasonable to think it's maturity because we're looking at her SR and 5th years at Pitt vs. FR-JR years at Penn State. And the change I see in her is very unique (body shape, lower body fast-twitch quickness on the court, etc.). She must have put in an incredible amount of individual work in her two years at Pitt. Of the transfers out last year, I guess I haven't seen anyone transform their game (but it's only a single year). But I suppose you could make a counter-point and also look at the progress of the players that didn't transfer: Katie Clark, Allie Holland, and Maddy Bilanovic all made tremendous progress within the (new) PSU program. Well I was thinking about Gabby who was very highly regarded as a recruit and who has taken the Toreros to unheard of heights-whereas she just couldn't quite lift PSU and her highly ranked teammates. I also note that Jenna Hampton had a laudatory season. As to Serena-I wonder if coming out of Kaitlyn's shadow to be the MB-1 was both freeing and motivating. As to those who made progress this season-we have a new staff so perhaps the fresh approach will be beneficial.
