I imagine the team is looking at the tapes of the last match with keen interest.

My understanding is that the format of the "Silent Set" will, THANKFULLY, finally change this year, from the previous format of "Fans are asked to remain silent until Penn State scores its 9th point in the first set" ( in honor of Jonni's number as a player), which Penn State fans honored, while fans of opposing teams completely ignored the request, effectively turning a home court advantage into a sparsely-attended away match. This year, there will be some kind of announcement honoring "Chasing Greatness" prior to first serve, but no request for fans to remain silent. Any thought that silencing Penn State fans was a good idea was refuted by Wisconsin coach Kelly Sheffield's joke after last season's silent set match on November 19th, won by Wisconsin in 5 sets ( in which Penn State started off the silent 1st set by dropping approximately the first nine points). Sheffield joked that it was too bad that Parker's number hadn't been "24." The lesson? PSU Marketing should stay the heck out of decisions that negatively affect home court advantages.

I was going to post a few days ago that while I liked the idea of a "Silent Set" and what it stands for, I did not think it was beneficial to the team, especially since Jonni is no longer on the team.

I’m sorry to hear that the silent set is being discontinued.

I’m sorry to hear that the silent set is being discontinued. It's not. Jonni's charity is still receiving recognition. What's being discontinued is eviscerating the home court advantage by insisting that Penn State fans remain silent, while visiting fans cheer their heads off. Anyone can go to the Chasing Greatness charity website and donate -- which is the kind of support that matters most: www.chasinggreatness9.com/

The name no longer applies! I saw it as a meaningful acknowledgement of the world of the deaf.

But if the visiting fans are now ignoring spirit of the gesture, then it's disrespectful.

As we head into tonight's match PSU is in third place in the B1G with a legitimate shot at hosting in the first round of the playoffs. I have been reflecting on my responses during the hiring of a coach to replace Russ Rose. I was hugely disappointed that we had failed to land Salima Rockwell and had "settled"(in my mind) for Katie. As of this writing Salima and Notre Dame are 10-14 overall and 4-12 in league play.
I apologize!!!

I didn’t have a strong feeling about who should come in after RR - really wanted Fawcett on staff in some capacity.
KSC has really won me over - hoping (as we all are) that she succeeds!
