Hitting Stats
Jess hitting .200 (11-3-40) Cam hitting .250 (14-6-32) Caroline hitting .133 (3-1-15) Taylor hitting .133 (6-4-15) Maggie hitting .529 (10-1-17) Izzy hitting .222 (3-1-9)
-- Maggie was unstoppable this match. Nice to see. -- I think that teams are making a point to block Taylor, so Izzy will need to not set Taylor quite so much on the perfect passes as the other teams are gonna have blockers up when that happens.
Blocks Izzy and Taylor with 5, Maggie with 4, CJ, Jess and Cam with 1
-- PUR had 6, count them 6, block errors. PSU had none.
Aces Quinn with 3, Cam with 2,
Digs Gill with 20, Izzy and Jess with 10, AVa with 6, Cam with 4, CJ and Jocelyn with 3, Quinn with 1.
Assists Izzy with 38, Gill with 5, Ava with 3, Quinn with 1

Question: What is the definition of a blocking err? I'm thinking that it's when the blocker has a net call on them. Is that all?

While there's a pause in the action, who watched the Minn @ Wisc game last night? Wow, what a game that was, and Minnesota came so close to winning. Two match points if I recall before Wisc took it somewhere around 20-18 I think. Terrific match. I did not. I'll have to go back and watch it. I'd forgotten that MINN beat WISC early in the B1G season.

I was late to watch the match but just finished. Very impressed, because I did not think it was our best volleyball but they found a way to win 3-0. This team never looks rattled. The 2nd set was a big win and they just looked business as usual even when down. Cam was huge along with the "littles". Maggie is fun to watch. When she gets a good set she is lights out. Taylor was a bit off tonight but her off night is still great. I thought CJ was just ok. She is still up and down for me. I think she will mature into a great player but still seems to just always want to hit hard (some adjustments have been made for some roll shots already but needs a bit more work). Still very pleased with the result. I am not overlooking Washington or Rutgers but man Nebraska match will be fun!!! Was nice Purdue honored coach Katie. Class act.

The improvement in passing and defense in a noticeable. CJ was a non factor in the first three sets of the Maryland match and was non existent tonight. We were left side dominant again but Cam has been exceptional. We’re good enough to get away with it against the everyone except the truly elite. Still feel like we can be better. On to Washington….

I want to join in, in giving a shoutout to Quinn Menger. Her serve has led the team on some really nice runs when we really needed to catch up + push ahead.

And before this run IO was feeling pretty good. Go figure. Clearly we should blame you ...

Against Maryland, CJ had 3 kills in the 1st set, 2 kills in the 2nd set, 2 kills in the 3rd set, and 3 kills in the 4th set (along with 2 block assists). She hit .217 for the match. IMHO, it's simply inaccurate to say she was non-existent in those first three sets. She had 10 kills for the match -- not bad -- and can't get kills if she isn't set. Of course, we'd all like to see her hit at a higher percentage -- she is hitting .208 for the season against B1G competition. But by way of comparison, Taylor Landfair, the former right side for Minnesota and now at Nebraska, is hitting .218 against B1G opponents; Raina Terry is hitting .209 against B1G opponents (on a lot more swings, admittedly); and Alexa Markley is hitting .094 against B1G opponents (though it's a somewhat limited sample size -- she has played in only 11 BIG sets, compared to 49 B1G sets for CJ -- that's still significantly below CJ's percentage.) I don't think CJ was non-existent tonight, either, but that analysis will have to wait for another day (and clearly, she was better against Maryland, but Purdue is significantly better than Maryland.)

You know, a lot of complaints by fans about PSU not putting not so good teams away; and justified. BUT, I really like the nerve of this team when it matters. They do a good job a coming thru when needed. All year ... end of sets PSU just raises the level.

PSU takes the set 25-23 on a slide by Maggie!!!!! PSU got a free ball in the middle of that to help them set things up for the winning pt. Good serving had Purdue out of system much of the set.

SIAP: PSU outscored Purdue 5-1 at the end of Set 1, 9-4 at the end of Set 2, and 7-1 at the end of Set 3.
