I've been loving the slide connection between Izzy & Maggie!! It's really improved since the start of the season & Maggie is hammering the ball down. I wonder whether/how often 5-9 Chicoine was the OH defending against 6-5 Maggie on the slide??

Taylor started rotation with Jess. Izzy has to keep setting Taylor to ease block on Jess at least a little. If teams try to stop Taylor then Jess will generally hit better. Taylor hitting .460+ coming into tonight. In this match some of the sets for Taylor were not perfect. Connection with Maggie was great. Understood. But Izzy tends to set Taylor whenever there is a perfect pass, and certain teams have noticed that and have blocked it a lot of the time, (or gotten a block touch). As you know, you can't always set the middle on a perfect pass, especially against a good blocking and smart team. 3 or 4 teams have focused on Taylor and have held her to under her season average.
By the same token, Maggie had a great night, probably (I think) that PUR had their best blockers on Taylor.
Edit: I get it that some of the sets tonight weren't great, but some teams have focused on Taylor and been ready for her quick attack regardless of the quality of the sets; and so Izzy needs to be more "random" in her sets to Taylor in those situations.
How much fun are we having? Such nuanced arguments about a team that is full of transfers and lost only to two of (in my admittedly ill informed opinion) the three best teams in the country in their gyms. The discussions here are indicative of the extra interest sparked by this talented group. Purdue and Maryland are both good blocking teams. Everyone got most of their swings touched. For sure Caroline has more work to do but I see her trying to add variety to her attack with pokes and sharp cut shots - not too successful but she is trying and that is different than many of our players from the years before Coach Katie. I also noticed Alexa trying some new attacks, and both Cam and Jess have successfully added to their arsenals. So while I wonder who is encouraging such skills development, I am excited that the players have enough confidence to try new things. And yes, we will definitely see experienced transfers come in, so no guaranty that the players on this year's roster will be starters next season.
