I admit that I didn't think this would happen! Congrats to the team and the coaching staff! That makes at least 2 of us; I would have been happy with PSU winning just 1 set. But for PSU to win in 4, just really surprised. I've seen a lot of team win 2 sets but not be able to get over the hump and win the match. I was very pleased that PSU actually elevated their game to win the 4th set and the match.

I agree I did not see this coming, although I was hoping for it. Caroline played unbelievable! She’s really matured over the year and there was a definite attempt to mix up her shots which worked. Cam was able to get herself out of a funk and take over at the end. Jess seems to not rise to the occasion for the big games. She seems to take over matches with the middle to lower seeded teams. I guess she did have a huge double block on her all night. The Littles played amazing with great block coverage. Nebraska did not play their best, but I give credit to our team for getting them out of system. So impressed with Andi Jackson, though. In my mind, she is the best middle in the country. I think I saw some of the next generation lion recruits in the stands.. Glad for them to see us beat Nebraska! Someone mentioned Ava Jurevicious was in the stands. Were there other recruits in attendance?

Was this game originally set for 7:00 P.M. Eastern Starndard time? I'da sworn that and that's why I tuned in at the beginning of the 3rd set. Oh well.

Just a couple of thoughts from a lurker as opposed to a regular poster.
That was championship level volleyball played by PSU tonight. So very proud of these young ladies and their coaches and support staff.
Nebraska is so fundamentally tough. They just don't hand points to their opponent. PSU matched that grit (except for set 2).
Set 2 will be used to bring the team back to earth. I wonder what the coaches said between sets 2 and 3.
Glad that CJ caught fire in this one. Glad that Maggie also played well.
I think that Lexi Rodriguez is considered the #1 libero in the nation and watching her play it is hard to dispute that claim. Gillian was certainly her equal tonight.
Damn I'm happy! Want to add that Jess and Cam didn't have their normal offensive output tonight. Nebby definitely focused on them. Kudos to the coaches and Izzy for distributing the ball.

Jess was hitting negative at the end of 3rd set and had a decent 4th set, along with Cam, to help PSU win the 4th set.
Part of Jess's problem is that she's the big gun for PSU and consequently, opposing teams are, a) gonna put their best blockers on her and b) plan especially to stop her.
So that's makes it more difficult for her. My guess is that NEB didn't game plan a huge amount for CJ cuz she hasn't had a match like this before against a good team.

It was nice to see the PSU serve receive show up in a BIG match. The SR in the WISC and PITT matches really looked terrible. I think that this will give them the confidence to play at their top level in the coming important matches.

It was really fun to watch a defensive gem like this match. Both teams played such a high level of defense.

I know Jess came back but if you look at her body of work vs top 10 teams she is not at the same level as say Babcock, Stafford, Franklin etc. serve receive was rough at the start as well. I am a huge Jess fan but want her to get to that next level and be a team USA star. The beauty is with Cam and Jess not having their best night, we still beat the number two team in the country. Exciting things in store for the tournament. Maybe my eyes deceived me but was Ewing there?

Congratulations to the whole team. Caroline was really firing off the rockets tonight and Izzy kept lighting the fuses.

I am very happy for the team, coaches and fans. NEB successfully negated our top hitters but that left room for right side attacks and both Caroline and Maggie took advantage. The defense and block coverage was spectacular from both teams-and we had the opposite of a slugfest (a 'rock fight" ?). Izzy had two amazing one-handed sets, coach used challenges and time outs effectively, and the crowd was a big help.
I have been hopeful for a final 4 appearance. Now I'm feeling it is likely. Could PSU be designated as 3rd seed (behind Pitt and NEB)?
Just a very fun season.
PS: Feel sorry for MD. NEB will be extra motivated.

What I love most about this match is the future recruiting implications it may have. I think KSC has shown she is able to keep PSU at its expected standard, but it just feels like this season and this win especially solidified it. There did seem to be a couple of future players in the stands as I believe I saw Gabrielle Nichols too. But to have CJ play her best game of the season and Mendelson having a strong game against their previous school, and to outplay their positional counterparts across the net shows the coaching staff’s ability to develop players. I saw a lot of comments on the other forum how the NEB transfers weren’t good enough to play there so had to come to PSU. But i think it should be noted that those NEB starters were playing against CJ and MM day in and out at practice and although they may not have started there, tonight proved how talented they are as players.
Outside of the Wisc game, Penn State was able to redeem their loses from last season too. I think I remember it being mentioned Russ Rose had said Deja McLendon and Katie Slay did not play well all season until the championship game and I think tonight answered the question as to why CJ hasn’t been getting pulled out of matches when she isn’t hitting well. Although this wasn’t the national championship game, it definitely had the caliber to be and glad to see her and the rest of the team step up to the plate yet again. I had voted for PSU to sweep truthfully so glad they were able to do it in 4. And with the way the team was able to step up with Cam or Jess not being as productive heading into the post season I think is huge for them, especially against a team like Nebraska.

I know that was an issue in the past so good to see it work effectively today. I think this should move PSU back up to third especially since they won against Louisville.
