Had 100% side outs in the third set. Allowed 5 and 4 point service runs in the second set. Still don't feel good about this team's chances due to inability to maintain concentration throughout a match. Megan had no elevation after reinjuring her ankle. PSU played essentially with one fewer hitter when she was in the front row. Gutsy job on defense from her though. She moved pretty well had elevation on two shutdown blocks and had some really smart shots for kills. I saw no difference in her play at all. Megan makes the most intelligent plays of all the players out there. So, if she's not 100%, PSU will be in loads of trouble rest of the way.

how can they clobber someone in 3 sets and yet get demolished in one? very frustrating. I noticed one characteristic of this year's team is that they are good as long as they keep it even to about the 15 all mark. Then they begin pulling away (probably due to the depth of the PSU bench) and win it easily down the stretch. However, when they're trailing early, it's almost as if each player is trying to do too much, they make more errors, and lose by a bigger margin. I'm not upset they lost set 2, they needed the wake up call. Also, they'll need to know that they cannot lose focus against a very good HI team, which they'll face in Des Moines.

Actually, they have shown this tendency for years; they swap points until somewhere around the 15 mark, and then they usually pull away if they are playing well!! I usually feel fairly confident if they keep the score close at the 15 mark!!!

Whew. Great thing about missing the game--not watching set 2 in real time.

That's the great thing about the Tournament, it doesn't matter one bit HOW you win.....but that you DID win.
Eyes forward.

Good that they came back from the second set debacle to win. Cannot have another set like that from here on. Such a talented but inconsistent and perplexing team.

Megan led the team with 7 kills when her kill gave PSU a 6-3 lead in the third set. She was hurt on the next play, She had a nice solo block to take it to 13-8 in the 3rd but that would be her last block or shared block. After that she scored a kill at 15-9 with little elevation but a good swing. She was shut out for the remainder of the 3rd set and all of the 4th set.
She was far from the high flying Megan that we are accustomed to. I really hope that she can get back close to 100% before next weekend.

One additional point - Megan led the team with 15 digs! The woman is a competitor!

Anyone else impressed with Wilma in her limited action? I just love her poise for a such a young player. She had a few nice digs again tonight.

Actually the last couple matches she impressed me. She's gotten much better at defense since the beginning of the season. Coach says she was better than Weiskircher at defense in the preseason. I think her confidence with the team has grown and we're gonna need it.

Can anyone (with a press pass - you know who you are ) find out if Courtney is OK? If she cannot jump as some have alluded to (because she may have re-injured her ankle), then I would, without any hesitation, convert her to libero for the remainder of the tourney. She's the best passer/digger we have.

I think, if she can still play defense (i.e., libero), we're OK. Also, when she was out for 2 weeks back in October, the team won all the matches in which she didn't participate. I think the "wounded animal" mentality actually helps this team to compete at a higher level. It keeps them focused, forces the starters to step up and those coming of the bench to contribute more. I just double checked. The ankle she injured back in October was her right one. Last night it looks like she spun and landed awkwardly on her left one. So I think she'll be fine since she stayed in the match. I believe she'll be ready to go next weekend, heck it could be her last.
