I looked back at activity on this site from a year ago and there were more than a few threads about the coming season--"who will win the B1G?" comes to mind.
We're less than two weeks from the start of the season and it's a wasteland. Volleytalk has also been without much PSU-related activity, as well.
Are we burned-out, or just feeling burned by showing so much pre-season exuberance last year?
Personally, I haven't invested much time learning about the new players and learning the roster. After a quick look at the roster I was surprised to learn that there is only one (1!) senior on the roster. Don't get excited. It's one of the 15 or so DSs.
I'm not looking for brilliant insights, but signs of life would be nice.

I have been thinking the same thing.

I've been AWOL. Staff, well, that's redundant, but yes, also AWOL.
Actually, I think the lull comes from diminished expectations -- no Haleigh Washington-type super star recruits coming in, several question marks about the team, and a sense among many (I suspect) that Penn State may not be "in the mix" this season.
So I think people are doing other things, like watching Rhythmic Gymnastics (how is that a sport?). I hope to have something up before the first match, but not sure I'll be able to do as much as I have in previous seasons.

I think the Soviets snuck it into the Olympics in Moscow back in 1980. I was watching some footage of pre-WWII May Day Parades and the Soviets were frolicking across Red Square with balls, those damn sticks with ribbons, hula hoops, and other paraphernalia--so I'm pretty sure they were responsible. And to think they wanted to remove wrestling from the Olympics? Oh yeah... Volleyball! I wasn't trying to lay a guilt trip on the DigNittany staff. As I've only followed the sport since mid-2010, I don't have that much perspective. But this is the quietest preseason I've seen. Maybe the lower expectations will help the team?

Believe me, the DigNittany Staff deserves all the guilt trips that can be laid on them Shiftless would be too high a compliment.

I'll be there too. I'm looking forward to the season. Lower expectations from many. But this could be a scrappy, tough team. We'll see.

I'm anxious for the season, but haven't received my season tickets yet. This is my first time ever getting season tickets, so I'm excited. Do they always send them out this late?

I wonder how many forum participants are season ticket holders?
Depending on how many, it might be a fun feature for them to share observations about the games they attend.

I can't remember back to when Penn State Women's Volleyball seemed to be in such a funk! No super recruits coming in, no high expectations, no repeat championship to look forward to. What caused this? I always get excited about our volleyball seasons, and I'm excited about the season ready to get underway, but I'm just curious how we arrived at this 'low point' in the program.

Is the program at a low point, or the fans? I'm hoping it's the fans. Volleytalk has been pretty quiet too. Maybe the Olympics and politics combined with a season that ended with little to look forward to has suppressed our normal irrational exuberance. No matter, the season starts in five days.

Yep, and I am ready. Let's hope it's just us fans that are at this unusual low point, preseason! GO LADIES!
