Side note: if you're Penn State, you're putting that match on a loop and sending it out to all the top recruits in the country. Electric crowd, resilient team, smart coaching...

I'm beginning to believe in this team. Also, thinking that this team might end up being better than Minn in the long run. Considering that they beat Minn in spite of all of the errors they committed. Minn had very few errors in the match excepting the 4th set, only 3 service errors for the match, very few hitting erros. PSU had around 22 kills in the first set. If you take out just some of those errors the set wouldn't have been close. Abby Detering had (I think) 3 good serving runs along with at least 1 good run for Briana Weiskircher. Very impressive match which also shows how much mental toughness this team has.

Great win and they earned it. Continue to wonder why Franti stays in back row when they serve to her with great regularity and she often is not creating a good pass when and if she gets a pass. We don 't run much in the way of back row attacks so why do we take a chance when there must be talent in all those other "D" players?
Why does the setter have more kills than the second middle? Gorrell ever get set tonight? Why is that given that she has been a positive factor all season?

M2 aren't known for offensive needs in college anyways.

Did we get the #1 team? DEFINITE-LEE
Is 30 K a record of some sort? Probab-LEE
Edit: PSU Web says: Four players notched double-figure kills, with Lee paving the way with 30. It marked the first time since 2007 that a single Nittany Lion scored 30 or more kills in a single outing. It also marked the most kills in a five-set match during the 25-point rally scoring era.

Fingers crossed.

This won't be easy; gotta serve tough yet avoid the service errors. Weiskircher stays in as setter. Just to be clear Brianna was in as a service specialist. Abby was still the setter.

Highlight Match on the Big 10 Channel - TV: BTN Streaming: BTN2Go I think this PSU team has the potential to approach each game with the correct "mindset". #1 Have fun! #2 Play hard #3 Don't worry about the things you can't control (individually and collectively) #4 wise words from Alisha Glass "Don't worry about being perfect" When you face teams who have a combinations of those characteristics they are the most dangerous ones (imo) PSU was not perfect, just excellent. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PSU Web says: It also marked the most kills in a five-set match during the 25-point rally scoring era. Is that correct? It seems other players have had >30 kills in a single match in the past couple years. EDIT: I must be reading into it. Perhaps they mean total kills by both teams?

So don't set Gorrell because the setter can dump or kill aka Micha? Setter attacks are IN ADDITION to the more commonplace middle attacks. Heidi is beginning to look like Blair with the variety that Heidi is showing. Blair sucked them in made them pay and then repeated it with the BROWN RAIDBOW that caught no one home in 5.

Wow, wow. Are they really back so soon? What it looks like to me is some really really hard work in the gym paying off. Every single position, people are doing things better than last year, or even last month.
Lee knew how important she is going to be to this team, and you can see how hard she has worked. Minnesota is such a great defensive team -- to get 30 kills means Lee was doing not one thing but a variety of things they couldn't handle -- plus it means stellar passing and setting -- and of course it means the middles are a consistent offensive threat so Lee was seeing some single blocks. 30 kills is something coaches will remember now for the rest of the season - it forces people to to game plan for her, which will open things up for Frantti and PSU's deep, versatile group of middles. A performance like that has lasting benefit for the whole team I think.
Middle is such a strength all of a sudden (or maybe not so suddenly). Gorrell used her redshirt year well and is a force offensively and defensively. Thelin has just improved and improved and improved. Washington played like an All-American -- zero errors on 20 swings, .700, against really great defensive middles. Washington was a natural leader as a freshman but seems more assured. The way she got everybody fired up to win that fourth set -- sometimes coaches can't do that, players have to.
Super impressive how Detering and White have made an impact in such a short time. Holcomb is no longer that tough freshman we saw last year -- she's a veteran. And Frantti seems healthy now plus all the extra court IQ so she has a lot more things she can do with the ball.
Anyway, who knows where it leads, but wow did this season get more fun and more interesting. Seems like I say this every year but I've never seen so much talent in the B1G. For Penn State to be in the thick of it, to be one of the teams that have to be reckoned with -- that is a great honor and privilege for these players.
It's good how the schedule worked out for PSU this year that they could build up to some tough matches at home before they have to play super tough teams on the road. The other thing about last night that jumps out at you is the resilience -- to be down like that and manage to steal the 1st set -- that just says something about the grittiness of this group. If they are tough in that way they can win some matches on the road as well.
