PSU only unbeaten team in BIG 1 match at a time. Our girls are becoming tough cookies with an attitude. Every game is the same. Difficult to win

Very real and emotional posts here today. Wow people. I feel like we need to sit in a circle and share our hopes, dreams and fears. I'll start. I hope to be in the circus one day. I dream of being a clown I fear people would hate me.

Is there a reason for the Carlini hate on this board? I'm in the same boat. I can't seem to muster up some "like" for her either. Not sure why. ... I just resented the endless claim that she was some singular talent at setter. She's a wonderful setter and leader but Hancock's setting and leadership was even more wonderful her last two years and every time PSU and Wisconsin played, you saw it. ... So right! they (Karch, I assume) had her starting in the PAN AM games and she was pretty much benched after two? matches. In favor of Micha. Who broke multiple records for the games.

Is there a reason for the Carlini hate on this board? I'm in the same boat. I can't seem to muster up some "like" for her either. Not sure why. I can only speak for myself. I dislike her not because of anything about her but about the way the Big Ten favored her over Hancock. Even when Hancock was winning championships and outplaying her by a significant margin in head-to-head matchups, we had to put up with the B1G TV commentators giving Hancock absolutely no respect and Carlini voted player of the year and setter of the year. The Wisky fans were insufferable -- incessantly calling for her to be the national team setter by her sophomore year in college. None of that is her fault really. She's just a tough hard-working lunch bucket player trying to be the best setter she can be. And maybe if she can stay healthy she will be the national team setter someday. I just resented the endless claim that she was some singular talent at setter. She's a wonderful setter and leader but Hancock's setting and leadership was even more wonderful her last two years and every time PSU and Wisconsin played, you saw it. Today there are several amazing setters in the B1G and we can appreciate them all -- not least Detering who has just burst on the scene. I totally agree with your sentiment. Hancock had this drive and internal fortitude that Carlini's size and skill sets could not overcome.

But for today, sorry, the statement is 100% true. I know you understand this. Just want to keep our collective mindsets on the current obstacle. I'm very very happy and excited for what this team is becoming. All good. Every victory will be crucial in this league and pay dividends.

It's going to be a roller coaster ride for all of the B1G teams (except Rutgers) this year. Buckle up for some highs and lows as the Nittany Lions work their way through the schedule. Halloween weekend and the following Friday will be particularly challenging!

I bear no ill feeling toward Ms. Carlini. I will say that she was outplayed by a Sophomore last night. Minnesota defends like crazy, and in that one respect is similar to this year's Penn State team. Minnesota may have a better block than we do, though it seems pretty close.
As we all know, a setter can be made to look "unsettled" by poor serve receive and passing. Unlike in our 5 set victory, Wisconsin flubbed the receive a lot last night. I seem to recall a fair number of bump sets from folks other than Carlini. I think our serving will give Wisconsin problems too. We have all noted how much better our serving has been, and I feel that may be why Rivera is not seeing the floor. Broerman, Holcomb, Washington, Frantti, Weiskircher, Detering and even Pierce, have done really well.

Broerman, White and Pierce rank #1, #2, and #3 on the team in percentage of serves in ( Click Here for the stats). That doesn't mean they are the three toughest servers, but it does say they have the lowest percentage of service errors.

Halloween weekend and the following Friday will be particularly challenging! Agreed, no one expects the Lions to go undefeated in the conference, but it's nice that they are on top for now. Heck, as long as they stay on par to be top 3 in the conference this year, I'll be extremely happy.

I don't dislike any college kid trying to do her best. The Wisconsin fans have put a lot of pressure on Lauren since the day she stepped on the court. And if she were our setter, we would feel the same way.

In my opinion Minnesota had exceptional serving last night and accounted very much for their win. I liked and like Carlini. She is a special talent but she and Micha were and are miles a part.

Like many of you, I have no "personal" animus towards Carlini. What upsets me, as it did most of you, is the shabby treatment Micha received from the Big 10, announcers, and our good friends on Volleytalk. In terms of head-to-head competition over the two years their careers overlapped, there's no contest as to who's better. This past summer's Pan Am games only provided more evidence over who's better.
If you're relatively new to PSU volleyball lore, go back on PSUMAUI's site (SFCPLDC) and checkout the 2014 regular season match between PSU and Wisconsin.
I hope there's something about Minnesota's performance against Carlini that PSU can duplicate. It was almost sad listening to Liz Tortorello-Nelson explain her difficulties. We can hope, the practice will make it easier for her to explain Carlini's "difficulties to come" against PSU.
