I was just looking at the BIG stats in service aces and my jaw dropped! The top two are Brooke Kranda, Michigan State with 25 and Taylor Hughes, Ohio State with 30. This is for All matches played so far. For BIG Matches only there is a tie with Carlini and Detering both with 14. I think Micha had over 50 aces this time of year in both her JR and SR years. I think at midseason there were individuals from other BIG teams much closer to 50 back then. What has happened to bring down the numbers? I know Micha was way above the rest but even the rest(a couple of players ace count) during her time was much higher than they are now.
As for the Michigan match-up, I only focus on the Conference interplay stats. Ohio State led us in most of the stats when you looked at ALL matches this year but when you looked at conference matches only it was no contest. We led Ohio State in all but one category (Digs). And lead Ohio State in every category when it came to opponent's stats. In this case, by the conference only stats it was clear who was the heavy favorite for that match! I know we haven't played Wisconsin or Nebraska yet and Minnesota at their home court but I think many will be surprised to see it when Penn State is still leading most Conference stats after the 5th of November.
As for the Michigan Stats vs Penn States Stats (Conf only)
Hitting% - Penn State #1 - Michigan #6 Kills - Penn State #1 - Michigan #2 Assists - Penn State #1 - Michigan #3 Aces/s - Penn State #2 - Michigan #8 Blocks - Penn State #3 - Michigan #7 Digs - Michigan #5 - Penn State #9 ( I have never paid any attention to Digs stats because I believe that if you have higher number of digs it just means your front has hard time terminating fast and/or you have played more sets.)
Opp Hitting% - Penn State #1 - Michigan #6 Opp Kills - Penn State #1 - Michigan #8 Opp Assists - Penn State #1 - Michigan #8 Opp Service Aces/s - Penn State #3 - Michigan #4 Opp Blocks - Penn State #1 - Michigan #14 (last) Opp Digs - Penn State #4 - Michigan #6

We've posted a Q&A with Talking Head (pre-Michigan). Here's the link: Click Here.

I agree not to put a lot of weight into that particular stat. Also, although I also listed the assists stat, I cannot seem to find any serious correlation between winning matches and assists (using the eyeball test). If you or anyone else has, please let me know.

YES! I believe this is why Holehouse and other fabulous Ls from PSU were ignored for BIG and other awards year after year. Many times you could see Coach was trying to make up for that in his selection of players to do media.

Also have to note: Michie looked just awful v MD in the first 2 sets on Wednesday. And they went into overtime on set 5 against winless MD.
They've had their ups and downs, which mystifies me because i see just HUGE talent there, esp in their front line.

Penn State gets to play in the big pool tomorrow night! I heard a couple of years ago that they were going to replace Cliff Keen Arena. Anybody know when this will happen?

Anybody know when this will happen? 1) so glad you're back, psumaui! 2) No idea on a new arena/gym. However, I know playing in a place that was formerly a pool would creep me out. You know that feeling when your on a boat that's on water 100ft or more deep? I'd imagine it'd feel like that. Good luck, gals!
