I don't want to get too specific, because PrepVolleyball.com is a pay site, but those who are bemoaning future recruiting should take a deep breath and chill. PrepVolleyball.com has released its list of top 50 juniors, and rest assured, Penn State's 2018 class is well-represented. For those who are interested, go to PrepVolleyball.com -- it's worth a subscription.

Great, how many left and right outside hitters did we get? Please don't tell me none.

There are three or four middles? What are the chances they all arrive? They can surely see that PSU is getting a middle for 2017 and at least one will remain that is at PSU currently. To use acting terms, what's the motivation for a middle to go to a team with 5 or 6 others? It would be cool if two or three are athletic enough to move to the outside. Thanks for keeping an eye on the future. I've had some fun with the past. I've gone back on Volleytalk to look at some of the comments from the end of the 2014 season. Just went through the comments surrounding the B1G Awards. On Wisconsin!

Here's the link: DigNittany Recruiting MatrixYou know what would be really cool for the Dignittany website? If you could make a future roster (prediction) tool. For instance, it would predict the roster of any future year based on current players (taking into account redshirt years) and adding new recruits. This way people could see who will be available to play in, say, 2018. I don't think many people realize that Novakovic and Reed should still be on the team in 2018.

We seem to get our share of recruits that don't pan out. Why couldn't we be more like the wrestling team?

We seem to get our share of recruits that don't pan out. Why couldn't we be more like the wrestling team? Some recruits take longer than others to mature into the game. The best example I can remember is that of Karsta Lowe. She didn't get much playing time her first 2 years at UCLA and only averaged 1.29 and 2.05 k/s, respectively. By her last 2 years she was averaging 4.31 and 5.96 k/s and was one of the more dominant hitters in the NCAA. I'm not saying everyone is going the route of Lowe, but I've known many athletes to be late bloomers.

I've gotten permission from PrepVolleyball.com, so I can confirm that all five 2018 recruits for PSU made the PrepVolleyball.com Top 50 Juniors list. I highly recommend PrepVolleyball.com -- it's well worth the subscription fee. And, fwiw, plenty of posters on VT post big sections of PrepVolleyball.com's lists each year. I certainly could have posted the fact that all five PSU players made the list. I don't do that because I think PrepVolleyball.com performs a valuable service, and they can only do that if they make money. I'm involved in publishing outside of DigNittany, so I'd rather be overly cautious.

STANFORD has 4 middles listed. conversion from middle to outside is not as easy as it would seem. Note the difficulty Heidi has had trying to be a right side. One note that I might expose is that our middle attacks account for something like 24% of all attacks (that number is compromised by not being able to separate Heidi's middle activity with her right side activity)Tori and Washington account for just under 24% of total. Wisconsin is around 28.5% and Stanford 31%

Wisconsin is around 28.5% and Stanford 31% I think these stats underscore a couple of issues Penn State had throughout the season: weak (relative to prior seasons) blocking leading to poor passing (at times) and poor connection between setters and middles (sometimes as a result of poor passing, sometimes not). Interested in how others perceive this.

Not sure I SEE CONNECTION BETWEEN WEAK BLOCKING AND POOR PASSING. CERTAINLY the setter must have a positive pass to enable a good middle set but it seemed to me that the passing was sufficient for the setter to be more open allowing the middles to be more active and even showing signs of some variety. Slides do get a lot of attention but there is such variety for the middle attack
