Serious questions: 1) what do you mean by "utility player"? Is it (a) a player who has a skillset that permits them to play well at multiple positions, or is it (b) a phrase that, for you, means a player who is OK at various positions, but doesn't really excel at any? and, as a follow-up to question 1, 2) why do you say "Cather's track record reflects that of being a utility player . . . ." From what little I know of the sport, the term "utility player" isn't really used that frequently in volleyball. To the extent it is used, I think it would lean more to option (a) in question 1 -- a player who can play well at OH, MB and RS/Opp. As to Cather being a "utility player," I may well have missed that, but what I understood is that she is a six-rotation player (which isn't how I would understand the term "utility player.") She appears to have played at a pretty high level at Old Miss (we'll find out fairly soon whether that translates to Penn State), where she made the SEC All-Freshman team in 2015, and played in 23 matches in 2016, started 19 ... led the team and ranked eighth in the SEC with a .351 hitting percentage ... posted a team-high 17 kills on a .480 clip in a 3-1 win at Georgia ... recorded 9 kills on a .348 clip in the first meeting against Auburn ... had a team-high 13 kills on a .346 clip against Kentucky ... Named SEC Player of the Week for Oct. 3 -- to my knowledge, all while playing RS/Opp. So, I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts (or those of anyone else) on these questions. No one would be more delighted than to see you optimism prove true. Cather would appear to be a solid RS/Opp based on her stats from Ole Miss. She hit for a high percentage in the SEC. Perhaps she can provide the type of lift to Penn State that Briana Holman brought to Nebraska from LSU.

Why is Wilma Rivera still on the roster? It was reported that she has transferred to Louisville. All the other transfers have been removed from the roster.

Wow the venom! On another note... Various coaches at Happy Volley were very impressed by Cather's demeanor while running the action in South Rec... At that time she was only on campus for eight days. Very gracious with all of the players. A lot of girls asked her for autographs and pictures. As a person, PSU got a WINNER. A Great ALABAMA girl... I hear Leonard Skynard in my ear...

Two questions:
1. When are the PSU Volleyball Camps this summer? 2. When does preseason practice begin?
A coach mentioned that we may see other players than listed on this blog's PSU roster. OOps... a third question... Are other transfers in play? Any any from Stanford looking our way?

The only Stanford player in play is Hodson but she is apparently medically retired due to multiple concussions.

They really don't take any initiative in tracking down rumors. Currently, they are hooked on Fargo, Season 2.

Wow...FARGO!? Your staff needs a break... or they probably are continuing to take one... Fargo?
Juanita camp is a key source of talent screening. Have you ever attended? Last year, I visited. Coach was able to analyze and divide the hundreds of campers with amazing skill and insight. It was fun to see past players return and support the effort...
Concerning Stanford, what position did the girl that had severe concussions play? I had heard a DS was in play to transfer, but maybe that was the girl from Texas...
Where do I send the fresh popcorn for your slacker staff?

Where do I send the fresh popcorn for your slacker staff? I think Nyline has his staff enrolled in a "Minnesotan as a Second Language" program--hence the affectation with Fargo. Personally, I think the show is an example of "entertainment karma," in which American viewers are being forced to pay penance for the the likes of The Beverley Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, and Petticoat Junction. Hayley Hodson was an outstanding OH for Stanford. She played at Rec Hall during the 2015 Pac-12 - B1G Challenge. According to her Blog, which was posted on Volleytalk, she will not play again.

The new coach at Stanford, Kevin H. of Illinois previously, said the DS that the led the team with ACES was no longer with the team, as well. Another blow to the returning National Champions... it is tough to repeat!

Talk about a slacker staff. Even Penn States site has updated Cat Cathers and Cami May with there respected #s . True, but they did it in a roster that, as of this moment, is listed as "2016 Roster," so we decided, as a staff, to leave things as-is, for now, until Penn State updates the whole shebang. Here's the link to the "2016 Roster" on Penn State's site: www.gopsusports.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/psu-w-volley-mtt.html

Coach is holding out for a last-minute transfer. Chances are very slim.
