Reporting on Volleytalk indicates that the women's volleyball team has departed on a 2-3 week trip to Brazil. Let's hope the feijoada agrees with them.
Of course we wish them all the best.

If not for you none of us would even be aware of trip. Hope the players enjoy the experience. Have you ever tried this stew?

www.gopsusports.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/042817aaa.htmlUNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s volleyball team is set to embark on a 12-day tour of Brazil from May 4-16 for a journey in which the group will compete against top-tier competition while also embracing new cultural experiences. “The team and staff are excited about the opportunity made possible by our booster club to participate in another foreign trip experience,” head coach Russ Rose said. “Brazil is one of the top countries in the world in women’s volleyball and we are eager to compete against new teams and have the opportunity for our players to be able to participate in a cultural exchange opportunity. "We went to Brazil two trips ago and it was a terrific experience," Rose continued. "I know the players will really have a lifetime of memories from the opportunity.” The 12-day trip will feature stops in Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro, with the team playing various teams throughout. In addition to playing, the team will have the opportunity to see plenty of iconic locations within the cities, including Paulista Avenue, Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain. The trip will be Penn State volleyball’s fifth-ever foreign tour. The team visited Brazil in 2009, in addition to Cuba (2000) and Eastern and Central Europe (2009, 2013). The team will document its trip with a series of blog posts, found on gopsusports.com.

The Feijoada I had wasn't stew, but kind of a feast with all kinds of Brazilian food including black beans, rice, oxtails, barbecued pork, greens, peppers, plantains, oranges, all sorts of good stuff. My mouth waters thinking about it.

Bobby, Your ignorance concerning the trip to Brasil demonstrates that you are not a member of the Penn State Women's Volleyball Booster Club. Every four years the Penn State Women's Volleyball Booster club funds an international trip. This year the club provided over $125,000 to underwrite the trip. The booster club works diligently through events, merchandise sales, and membership fees to raise these funds. We would be happy to have you join at an honorary coach's level. Please join today for the 2017-2018 membership year.

Think of this as an obtuse effort to promote membership.

Think of this as an obtuse effort to promote membership. The membership levels and annual dues are: Honorary Coach $500; Captain: $250; Spiker: $100; Blocker: $60; and Digger: $40. You get varying benefits with each level, but really, the benefit is that you are making a significant contribution to helping the Penn State Women's Volleyball team make its once-every-four-years trip abroad. I will post a link to the PSWVBC website as soon as their online registration goes live. I think this week.

let me add some additional information: there's a number of things that would not be possible for PSU WVB without the Booster Club and some other benefactors, and from what i understand they are not fair weather friends to the team...been there through thick and thin.
Also, some body, not sure if it's NCAA or not, limits the frequency with which a team can take these foreign trips. I believe the theory is that teams with bigger levels of support should not get an unfair advantage over other competitors. So it boils down to each player on the team will have taken 1 foreign trip during a 4-year tenure on the team.

Let's hope the team bonds and learns during this trip. I hope they become reinvigorated by the Brazilian love of the game. Brazilians celebrate before, during and after the match... a little connectivity!

THREE VERY SMART TEAMS: UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-- Three Penn State teams have received an NCAA Public Recognition Award for earning high scores in the most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) compilation, including two of the Nittany Lions' most recent NCAA Championship squads.
The three teams -- women's tennis, women's volleyball and wrestling -- earned multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent nationally for their respective sport through the 2015-16 academic year (data from 2012-13 through 2015-16). The women's volleyball (2014) and wrestling (2016, 2017) programs have captured NCAA Championships during the past three years.
"I think that all teams and athletes at Penn State are constantly striving to be successful in the classroom and on the floor of competition," said Russ Rose, women's volleyball head coach. "The athletes being recognized through this award made a commitment to excellence in all facets of student life at Penn State."

Lainy Pierce just posted an update on the PSU site. Apparently, they got there OK after a 9-hour flight.
