I'm hoping we can get through the B1G with three losses or less, two would be ideal. Getting a Regional Final at Rec Hall would be magnificent. That would guarantee PSU four straight cupcakes, right? The B1G is gonna be a grind. I was uncertain about a few teams that really remained question marks, and they have really proven themselves this weekend. Minny wining 3-1 at Texas is a statement, and Purdue beat Creighton. Nebraska has Hunter back and handled UCLA in two sweeps--convincing sweeps, with no really close sets. That's ridiculous. The match @ Minny is the most dangerous. Both Wisconsin matches will be rough. @ Purdue will be tough. And Nebraska at home won't be easy. Illinois COULD have swept Stanford yesterday, so don't overlook them. Michigan State is still a question mark, but can be dangerous. Michigan is trending down. Ohio State? Eh. Just gotta take it one match at a time. But you can bet the Nebraska planning will begin very soon. Good analysis. But more importantly, how was dinner?

Just so impressed with their poise and refusal to lose. Even when plan A is not working well, they keep plugging. I thought Gorrell and Thelen's blocking in sets 4/5 were significant.

I don't like thinking ahead like this, I mean who knows what Yale might have up their collective sleeves, but 2009 was the last time PSU entered the B1G season with a "0" in the loss column, right?

It's my understanding that Nyline's slacker staff administers the FFFF, so I doubt you'll have to worry about accounting/receipts. Probably a great opportunity to hit Costco for a few filets for your family's holiday dinners. Party on!

The conference is going to be like running the gauntlet and the team with the best depth will come out the winner. I hope Coach has the backups ready when needed. We have the best starters but injuries are part of the game.

About depth: We've got essentially 10-11 in our lineup (one might even say starters)... 3 Washington Thelen Gorrel at MB 2 Weiskircher Detering at Setter 2 Detering and Reed at OPP 2 Frantti and Lee at OH 2 White and Pierce at DS/L, with lots of permutations in the exact deployment of them. This once in a decade opportunity w/the wacky 6-2 gives us lots of options, so I'm very optimistic.
It gives us some depth right there. But Sciorra did alright tonight; we'll likely see more of some of the other OHs, especially this coming weekend. Powers, Putnicky, Cather.
When I worry about depth right now, I'm thinking of who will be battle ready in 18; but then I tell myself we have to just play this year.
I agree w/Maui that set 1 loss resulted most likely from poor serving. But we righted the ship. As I watched, I thought PSU looked cooler and calmer (but with passion!) than Stan. Even sets 1 and 3 we pushed them and created a long, cringe-worthy replay reel for them.
Finally, WHO WENT OVER THE TABLE?

Here is a fun trivia question: What does Stanford now do (did tonight) but to my recollection, never did before this year but Penn State has done every match that I can remember.
Hint: I do believe Stanford does this because Hambly is now their coach. Any guesses?

Someone remarked about the frequent floor wiping that went on during the match. It was mostly supervised and assisted by Kendall White. All of the mopping up was on the PSU side. Apparently Stanford women don't sweat.
On a more serious note, the two sensational digs that Kendall made on successive Plummer kill attempts near the midpoint of the final set were the turning point in that set.

On a more serious note, the two sensational digs that Kendall made on successive Plummer kill attempts near the midpoint of the final set were the turning point in that set. Dave Shoji used to do this when he was out of time-outs. He did this against us in the Semi's in Tampa, Florida in 2009. From what I saw from tonight, this wasn't a delay tactic since Penn State was winning, not losing most of set 5 and it was smart for Kendall to do this to keep players from slipping on the floor. I saw people were commenting and complaining about this on VT about a ball landing and Penn State cleaning up the spot where the ball landed but people that make comments like that seem to forget people sweat in place and drip all over the floor. Players don't need to go to floor to cause slippery spots on floor. Loved seeing Kendall keeping ball off the floor!! After a while that has to frustrate opposing players when they can't get ball to hit floor due to great defense!
