Russ said that the team had issues playing against A&M's faster offense. Seems like a fast offense should give other teams problems too, or just the #2 team in the country exclusively? If every other team can handle that speed, are we thinking that, despite not being prepared for TAM's fast attack, we somehow won the match, maybe thru just luck? If so, then what justifies our team ranking? I'm inclined to believe TAM has consistency issues, more than PSU being vulnerable to TAM more than any other team we've played. I think the fact that the other top teams had a chance to watch A&M play against us before they played them had something to do with their playing better against them because they were better prepared to play against that faster offense. They got to see the A&M's lefty setter's setter dumps and made a plan for that to slow her down. I don't think Penn State had a chance to watch A&M play against tough competition before they played them. I don't see any issues in the future with playing a faster offense. I think Russ will have them ready.

I personally feel like we ran into a very hot TX A&M team and we were not-so-hot. If we were to play them again, especially at home, I think we sweep them. I'm just happy to see the girls grinding out victories in those long 5-set matches.

Maryland vs #18 USC MD takes set 1 - 25-22 MD takes set 2 -25-23. Up 2-0
MD is currently 9-0 this season. Looks like Coach Aird had a good team this year that will be competitive in the BIG.

I sat behind their new middle, Samantha something (1/3 of their team is named Samantha...truly) from Washington State on the way to the NCAAs this year. She was playing in the Gatorade game. They also took one of Lainey's HS teammates. Their schedule hadn't been all that demanding until tonight.

Yea, I figured that when they played a ranked team we would find out what kind of team they really have. I am pleasantly surprised but then again, I knew it would only take Aird a couple of years to get the team competitive in the BIG. I think you are talking about Samantha Drechsel from Bothell, WA

Milana got ignored in the BIG honors last year...don't think she made the all BIG freshman team. Mystery to me...

Not sure but I think this may be the most significant victory in MD WVB history I think under Aird it may be. They made the NCAA tournament in 1990 (1st rd), 1995-97 (2nd rd), 2003-05 (2n rd). Don't know who they played during those NCAA tournament matches.

Marquette takes set 1 from Wisconsin. Looks like Wisconsin is waking up now. Has a healthy lead 17-8 in set 2. When I see Wisconsin's court I always cringe at the way the playing floor drops off into the concrete. Worry about someone cracking their skull one of these times going after a ball.
