if i recall correctly, that was the team w/POY VanSant. We made it look so easy. It was the one with VanSant. And the constant chatter from Huskies fans about how Penn State's "cupcake" tournament opponents would doom them against Washington. I was there, and it was extraordinary the way the air and enthusiasm were sucked out of what started as a rowdy, and overwhelmingly pro-Washington crowd (the arena was only about 12 miles from the Huskie campus, as I recall.) The purple bunch were dumbfounded. To be honest, I think everyone was -- though for different reasons, It was greaaaaaaaaaaat! Don't mean to be trash talking, Just my observations and recollections of the emotions of that evening.

Despite all the national titles, I think that 2013 semi at Washington is in many ways the program's finest moment ever. Always puts me in a great mood to revisit it That one and the Texas semi-final in 2010! I think the 2010 team set a points allowed in a semi record against Texas. They broke that record in 2013 against Washington. It's a wonderful game. I'm so fortunate that circumstances led me to becoming a PSU volleyball fan. This has to be the best site in all of women's volleyball. We are very lucky.

Kansas now up 12-6 TO Baylor. Baylor seems sluggish today. Not the same team I have been watching this season.
A Baylor loss will not help Hawaii's RPI since Baylor is the only ranked team they have beaten this season.

Micha took care of that herself. She went after VanSant in that game. Just like she went after Wisconsin's setter the following year in Madison.

Watching LSU v Ole Miss on ESPNU. Announcers pretty good. Officials not keeping control of match. Lots of digs, blocks and errors. LSU out of subs in set 4 so playing a 5'4" DS in OH spot. So naturally LSU wins 4 straight points to force set into deuce. Why Ole Miss did not hit over the DS is a mystery. Match point LSU had setter and DS in front row, and finally the Rebels hit over the DS to score. Finally Ole Miss takes set 4 30-28.
Going into set 5.

If Ole Miss wins it would be a big upset since LSU is ranked #31 while Ole Miss is ranked #181.

Messy play all over. I think both teams hitting near zero in set 5. 40 ties so far in match.

Finally, 19-17 for LSU. What I learned from this match is how good the top teams' setters are. I don't recall seeing a match with so many poor sets.

watched the MSt-MI game on the ESPN site overnight. Very entertaining...lots of really good play.
But...has anyone else noticed the MI team has personnel stationed behind their servers with what looks like a radar gun? If that's what it is, is it a lark or a diagnostic tool? doesn't seem like serve speed is MI problem this year...

But...has anyone else noticed the MI team has personnel stationed behind their servers with what looks like a radar gun? If that's what it is, is it a lark or a diagnostic tool? doesn't seem like serve speed is MI problem this year... I didn't notice that. It could be that they are seeing where individual is serving from or foot movement up close. Just guessing. Big match today with Stanford and Washington. Normally, I would think this might be a great match (still may) but Washington and the rest of the PAC 12 below Stanford don't seem to be up to normal PAR this season to challenge them. That may change, but right now I don't see it. That doesn't mean that they can't beat Stanford, it's just that the quality of play is down this season compared to what we've seen in the past from PAC12 top 5 teams as attested to by the current RPI with Stanford being highest ranked team from that conference at #7. Since a Stanford win will help our RPI, I will be rooting for them today as I have done since we played them. I just heard that Plummer is not at 100% so maybe she is sick, injured or just overworked by Hambly. I knew something was different about her lately. The way Hambly is using her reminds me of the makeup of UCLA when we played them in Regional semi's back in 2014 where they relied way too much on Lowe to get their points. Even though Lowe got 25 kills in 3 sets, it wasn't enough to win because they became predictable just as Cal was with Murray when we played them for the National Championship in 2010. Still a lot of volleyball to be played so maybe adjustments will be made to distribute the ball more to other players. After this weekend, we are only at the mid-point of the regular season. A lot can happen in the next couple of weeks.

Some volleyball to watch until the Stanford match (if you are planing on staying up that late). Live right now - #33 Colorado State vs #188 UNLV - free streaming - midway in the 3rd. Colorado State up 2 sets to 0 Live right now - #19 BYU vs #108 Pepperdine - free streaming - just started Stanford up 11-7 in set 1. Washington not looking that good. Lot of unforced errors, mental errors at the net. Stanford now up 14-7 TO WA. WA does not look like a top 20 team today. Seems to have little communication on the court during rallies. That first set was quick. Stanford takes set one 25-16. Too many passing issues with WA right now. Washington comes back and takes set two 25-18. WA did better at passing that set. For a Stanford/Washington match, the arena is half empty! This is looking more and more like a 5 setter but there just isn't any consistency on either side right now. If it goes 5 sets, I will more than likely put it up on my alternate YT channel sometime on Friday. WA up 20-16 in set 3 Washington siding out at 47% and Stanford siding out at 40% at 22-19. Now 23-19 WA WA takes set three 25-21. Neither team siding out with a good %. On to set 4. Stanford up 12-8 in set 4. Still relying on Plummer too much in MHO. Seems like she is only choice when they are out of system. Stanford up 16-9 TO WA Stanford takes set four 25-20 Stanford up 8-5 in fifth set. Stanford up 11-10. Plummer looks exhausted! 58 attempts! (now 59) That 59th swing showed that she had no energy left. Stanford up 13-10 TO WA Stanford wins last two points to take set five 15-10. This is one of the 5 setters that I can't say was an "instant" classic. Lot of things to see here to see if improvements are made in the next couple of weeks by both teams. One thing I noticed that was pretty glaring was when Stanford was out of system the ball was going to go to Plummer. MB's got their kills and Lutz had 13 kills in match. Stanford winning this match is good for our RPI!

Yes, noticed the arena was pretty empty. 8 pm start time not ideal, IMO.
I was struck by how many Ks WA was getting without Stan getting a finger on the ball, especially in set 2. Scout that tape!
Plummer: take out the garbage. All the garbage. And, Hambly admitted she was fighting a virus. Lot to ask of a player.
Lutz was lackluster for the first 3 sets. Not sure what changed to get her involved.
Wackiest call/missed call...ALL the WA players saw a Stan hit skim the scoreboard above the court (hate those in venues where WVB is played...) on the way to the WA side. It was not reviewable and to the shock of Kiraly and Sunderland, Coach Cook was yellow carded after raising the issue.
