Although McMahon, who is a former Badger, isn't a fan of Penn State, she respects them and their program. I thought she went overboard in the other direction. She was effusive in her praise of PSU throughout. I suspect that Wisky fans were not impressed with her commentary. I suspect you might be right. But after a quick look at the match thread on Volleytalk, I'm not particularly concerned about Wisconsin fan's delicate sensibilities. They're almost as much fun to beat as Nebraska.

Does Sheffield remind you of a garden gnome? Yes. Is that wrong?

On another note, know what gets annoying? I read another game recap that refers to kendell White as kendell pierce. You know how many times I’ve seen that this year.

Liz Tortorello is a Badger.

What a weird wonderful match. Wisconsin digs like the Japanese national team; digs against almost everyone and so many block touches. Still wondering what Nia Reed ate for lunch today. Just amazing. Great to see the ladies prove that they can win a defensive battle, and Kendall White (aka Pierce) got an assist while sitting on the floor! Holcomb played well too.

And was it on GoPSUsports.com? Because I think they had a glitch for awhile, but fixed it. If it wasn't on GAoPSUsports.com, do you remember where it was? Because I think it is important to keep our Kendall's straight (I once posted about Nia Grant, but typed Nia Reed -- talk about Nia Culpa).

In fairness, I guess we'd have to ask garden gnomes. I should add that I generally am strongly against commenting on the appearance of players or staff -- and that hasn't changed. But gnu's comment was, I thought, clever (I recognize there is some hypocrisy on my part here) -- capturing something about Sheffield's expression that played into a basic dislike I have of Sheffield -- that he is almost always scowling. And he is also almost always standing on the sidelines. So it's really hard to avoid seeing his scowling visage throughout the game. The image of an angry garden gnome somehow fit, and made me laugh. But I am not endorsing comments about personal appearance. Let's generally steer clear of those. This is the "garden gnome exception." And it only applies to Sheffield in this thread.

It was one of the articles recapping last nights win. Also when u go to stats on gametracker I’ve seen kendell pierces photo under digs section a few times instead of whites.

That has been for quite a while now and was supposed to be addressed by CBS who controls Gametracker. They and the PSU SID had been notified of this mixup. It's Kendall (btw) for both.

I watched video posted on WI athletics site of Sheff after the game. I was surprised at how human and genuine he seemed...and complimentary to so many of our players. He also made separate comments I read about Reed and her impact on the game. He seemed totally not defensive about their predicament and focused on the post-conference play...and his belief in his team. Worth seeing.
Still so happy they did not succeed.

Are you talking about his video press conference that he did before the match on the 23rd?

Wisconsin has exciting young players, who are learning under the fire of a really difficult schedule. They will almost certainly get better. If they defend like they did last evening, they will always be a dangerous opponent.
I do agree with my wise friends who pointed out (both before and during the match) that Wisconsin's service errors are a problem. Looking at the box score, WI actually had more kills than we did, but they gave us a bundle of free points. Frankly, if my team defended like they were doing last night, I would tell my servers to just get the ball in and let the defense do the rest. That seems like a simple adjustment, so likely I am missing something.
