Looks like the Huskers suffered a lost weekend--at home. Wisconsin just won 3-1!

Congrats to Wisconsin. Surprise win for sure. They haven't been playing that great as of late but this game has to serve as a huge confidence booster. Nebraska, on the other hand, is reeling after this weekends games. Coach Cook will get them back on track but they displayed some weakness in their game.
Out of curiosity, I would really like to see some inter-conference regular season games (e.g., PAC12 vs BigTen vs Big12 teams). Would help answer those lingering questions every Monday of whose the better team and conference when the AVCA releases the D1 polls.

Watching several of the Minnesota matches from early on moving forward, Coach Hugh has them so fine tuned...and it's only getting better! Their demeanor on the court, as well as their positioning during points, and athleticism, is really enviable. No over celebrating, but not too tense as to forget their game plan. They took Nebraska to task, and truly did outplay them in all aspects of the game. Nebraska looked like they had no answer, even when they stepped up their play and relied on the crowd. In my humble opinion, Coach Hugh has molded them into a top 5 team. I cannot see them losing again, unless they have an off night. Yes, I absolutely agree, although I do see them losing at least one more vs PSU. ;-)

Yes, I know. Bummer. Too bad. Maybe they should take some notes from MLB's inter-league play; makes for a more interesting regular season.

in other news... OSU needed every point--and then some-- to eke out a win v Michigan: 25-23;23-25;28-26;28-26. they seem to have transitioned fairly smoothly to the replacement setter.

Woot! Texas just got swept by TCU pretty handily; 25-19, 25-19, 25-20. TX hitting % was .183 vs .309 for TCU. Well done TCU.
Now if Penn State wins the 2nd match against OSU on Friday, I believe they will move into 2nd place in the rankings.

We'd pretty much be a lock at AVCA #2 if we win on Friday. #1 USC plays Washington and Washington State(both away) this weekend. Washington match should be good and Washington State can be a tough place to play in. Washington State has nothing to lose! A loss by USC against Washington won't get us to #1 but a loss against both Washington's would.

I'm sure we'll all agree that a PSU win is the most desirable of outcomes.

Texas looked 'off'. They are a good team, but have just as many flaws as the other top teams. They couldn't receive serve well against a very hot TCU serve, and the TCU defense was remarkable. Somewhat reminiscent of our game against Northwestern? Nice to conjecture about other teams' results, but in the end, we just need to keep up the stellar play we exhibited last night. In the end, number one seeds usually never win the championship. Where we end in the polls are fun to follow, but how we're playing by December can take us far...note last two years. And, Ali played great DEFENSE yesterday! Note Karch's comments of her ability to be back row AND front row special. Bet Karch was eyeing up some future Team USA players. ; ) Let's hope Friday is another continued step in the development of the team. Kudos to Keeton, too! Great passing!

Even though losses by other top teams will benefit PSU in the ranking, if they can win their games, they'll be a force to reckon with whomever they play rest of the season and even the in the tournament.

Even though losses by other top teams will benefit PSU in the ranking, if they can win their games, they'll be a force to reckon with whomever they play rest of the season and even the in the tournament. The last time TCU played Texas earlier in the season, TCU gave them a tough match even though it was a sweep they took Texas to extra points in the 3rd set. TCU only has 5 losses and is ranked 36 in RPI. I still think Texas has the same problem it has had in the past. Hit the ball hard and deep on Texas and keep them out of system and a good team should defeat them. I have also been watching Paulina this year and she still is as inconsistent as she was last couple of years. Here is something: I checked Massey predictions for the Washington vs USC match this weekend and Massey predicts a 3-1 win by Washington with a 25% chance of USC win. I'm really not worried about the AVCA rankings because the don't matter come Dec. Massey is right most of the time from what I have seen in the past when it comes to predicting wins/losses with top teams playing each other. Predicted Penn State's wins (all 6 of them) in the post season last year to include sets won/lost for each match.
