Thanks for the info Millennium. I wasn't clear when I was wondering who our pin hitters would be. I knew that we had a number coming in next year. I guess what I was wondering was who would take over the roles of Nia Reed and Taylor Leeth, and , sorta like elliotberton said, 'Who would take out the trash'. . I know that some of the hitters coming in are pretty highly rated, but haven't seen too many come in (to PSU) and as freshmen play as Adanna Rollins has for MN. Would purely love to see one of our 2019 OH recruits play like she is. Did Blair Brown play OPP or RS in 2010? Was thinking she was a pin hitter at 6' 5" but I'm really don't remember. Amanda Phegley looked so good offensively Wednesday that I would love to see her play a pin hitter next year, especially considering our embarrassment of riches at the MB position. However do realize that that is quite an adjustment. Blair Brown was an Opposite. Phegley looked good on the slide, but not sure how she would do at opposite. Not saying she wouldn't do well, but different skills are needed -- different swings, different approaches, etc. I think we fans sometimes think "how hard can it be to change positions? It's just moving over a couple of feet.". But it's really not that simple. At least one OH will need to be a six-rotation player. I doubt that's Amanda Phegley. And at least this season, RS is taken by Jonni Parker (who could move to OH, I would think). On a tangent, we also talk about using the 6-2 like it's just flipping a switch. Among other things, you need OHs (note the plural) who can play 6-rotations, or else you run out of substitutions. Thanks for the info nyline. I do realize it's not as easy as lining up in a different position. Guess I'm hoping against hope that she could make the switch. I know it took Heidi Thelen a while to switch from MB to a pin hitter position. You can't sleep either?

Thanks nyline for all the effort you put in this site. It makes being a fan of the PSU women's team so much nicer. Also really enjoy your sense of humor. (Just wanted to remind you to keep flogging the slacker staff, if you can find them, as otherwise morale will never improve.)

Hey Millennium, since you're giving lessons on how to edit messages on the forum , I was wondering if there is any easy way to quote just part of a message from someone? Or do you quote the whole thing and delete the part you don't want to quote? Not having a lot of success in figuring it out. Thx!
I am a member on a soccer forum that allows you to quote just the portion of the message you want to respond too. However, on VT and here, you have to quote the entire message and delete the portion you don't want to respond too.

I would definitely agree that Parker moves to OH next year and plays all 6 rotations, that would make the most sense.
In response to Jojonito, finding another Adanna Rollins is not easy. Many schools passed her by, including the Longhorns, in her home state.
Of course, we got Parker from Ohio, so there is that. The universe has a way of balancing itself out.
Fortunately, the RS hitter doesn't need to be to play all 6 rotations.
Having said that, I have no idea who will be on the right next year. LOL!

Hey Millennium, could you explain the distinction between the OH and the RS hitter especially as concerns the OH hitter needing to play all six rotations and the RS hitter not needing too? I'm a bit of a noob and have never quite understood the distinctions between the various hitter positions, (that is the OPP, OH and RS hitters).

One of the things I especially like about Coach is that he trains the pin hitters to hit on the left and right side. When we get out of system you are still able to make plays. NYline is very helpful since most of us have never played volleyball.

Having said that, I have no idea who will be on the right next year. LOL! Jonni Parker is an exceptional leaper which compensates for her lack of height. She has the quickness to play either pin but also has setter skills which makes her super flexible. Normally teams put their best hitters on the left side, so blocking skills are very helpful to the RS or OP position. Taller pin hitters are sometimes able to hit over the block which makes them so much more difficult to defend. Coach Rose is a master at getting players into the best positions for the team but some players have a higher ceiling than others so it is an ongoing process.
