This will be an interesting match, especially considering the discussion on the forum recently where some people thought that PSU needed taller terminators. ILL has attackers that are 6'2", 6'2", 6'3", 6'4", 6'4". From my recollection, they've usually seemed to have pretty tall attackers. The average attackers are about 1-2" taller than PSU. It is interesting comparing blocking of ILL & PSU against NEB. ILL was out blocked significantly at Champaign 14-7 but equal in blocking to NEB at Nebraska 12-12. PSU was out blocked by NEB at home 13-11 and was out blocked significantly by NEB at Nebraska 20-11. PSU will need their middles to play well, both defensively and offensively. IMHO don't think that height difference is that big a deal, but the experience is. ILL has only 1 sophomore with the rest of the attackers being Jr & Sr. I think PSU can win, BUT will need everyone playing well. It also seems to me that ILL is improving regularly whereas PSU is getting better but not at the same rate. Also, one is never quite certain how the freshmen will do. Then you have the Poulter factor. She's a very good setter. I also think that PSU has a bit of an advantage in serving and serve receive and maybe in overall defense. Should prove to be a fun match. (Hopefully fun meaning a PSU win ).

Three weeks ago, I thought we were pretty evenly matched with the Illini. I even had high hopes that we could win this match. Those hopes went out the window after the Purdue match.
Also, now that I've really digested our lack of offense combined with the Illini's home court advantage, I doubt we win. I hope it's competitive though.

I gotta agree with you. We've got some good hitters, but not great hitters. It would really be nice to have one of the terminators that are on some of the other teams. But, IF our freshmen play well we have a decent chance. But that could be a big if.

looks like Rutgers gave IL 2 sets of uncomfortably close VB last night. IL won at 20, 22, but then 11.

I was at this years match in the College ave. gym and last years also. and Rutgers is a much better team now. By the way if Rutgers can't attract top players from the USA, this gym would be a reason why

I think this match may be another learning moment for the freshman. We will need Nia and Taylor to step up their game tonite.
