Nice post 96psu. One more year of Covid eligibility. Then I believe the NCAA rule is four years of eligibility. One additional for redshirt or medical. Beyond that I believe moving forward there will be four years and then it's over for college varsity sports.

Recruiting high schoolers is a 5-year process. On radar as 8th grader, talk to mom & dad as freshman, get a commitment as soph, fight off suitors as a junior, get 'em to enroll in winter as a senior. When the Rose era slowed and PSU hired a moderately known, but not high profile AC in KSC, they lost at least some momentum for 2-3ish classes, and it's still TBD if the coaching staff can get back to elite level (there are good signs). Also, HS VB in PA is relatively weak so the recruiting net must be cast pretty far. Using the portal was the only feasible way for the team to field a competitive team in 2022 and 2023. I doubt the staff wants to be recruiting Seniors and Grad students, but it has been their only real option. The COVID 5th year also led to an all-time high number of D1 caliber players. I suspect we'll see PSU play in the portal far less over the next 2 seasons, and I think that's an easy story to tell parents of recruits.

Caroline Jurevicius (c/o 2023). She redshirted this year so has 4 years of eligibility. Though we missed out on getting her out of high school, might we get a second chance through the Portal?
Given that her position (RS) is the position that we've yet to secure a commitment for, she would fill our roster needs. In the c/o 2023, she was ranked top 3 as a RS.
Fun fact: Her father is Joe Jurevicius (PSU Football Alum).

Re: Caroline Jurevicius - It's being said that she has a "do not contact" status with her Portal entry... meaning - She knows where she wants to go and will be the one to reach out to schools. Hopefully we're on her list. (Before committing to Nebraska, she was also considering Stanford, Texas, Wisconsin and Penn State.)

With the Penn State connection, I was salty about not getting Carter Booth. If we don't get Jurevicius AGAIN, I will be triple salty.

I just hope whoever transfers in decides to do it earlier than later. We saw how even big names can fall a little short because of the lack of chemistry. And a semester and a summer of practicing would be so much better than just a summer.

Nebraska uses a scholarship and their coaching resources on Jurevicius for a year and get nothing in return. Beason and Krause play OPP so you have to figure next year Jurevicius would be third again on the depth chart which means little playing time. I think she can read the writing on the wall at least for next year at Nebraska. You would think if she committed somewhere that would filter out to the public.
I'm a little surprised MB Mendelson is ok with warming the bench junior and senior year at Nebraska. |

Hayden Kubik in the transfer portal. All those dreams of following in sister's footsteps never materialized. If these players have playing time paramount on their minds they should give consideration to that prior to committing out of high school.

IMO that’s somewhat expected.
With Allie leaving, the coaches are probably trying to get one of the big names in the portal (e.g. Blackwell). But those big name middles are going to be in demand, so they probably are consider a lot of offers.
Jurevicius seems to be a good prospect and the number of Penn State people that are following her are growing each day (atm it is, KSC, Coach Brian, Coach Dan, Alexa, Izzy, Quinn, Jess, and Ava) *crosses fingers*.
Someone on the other forum insinuated a while ago that we already have a decent setter scooped up but I have 0 idea who it is and is not being discussed.
