I don't see anyone that can replace Taylor in serve receive this year, or for that matter next year. Maybe Jonni Parker. I've seen Emily Sciorra and Cathey back in the 2nd string serve receiving during warmup. Not sure who else. Hampton and White could do a cover two. However I think Parker will be asked to do that role next year, and as we have seen with others, that will hurt her offense some.

If Jonni is a primary offensive weapon next year, I can't see Russ doing anything which would negatively impact that. In VB it's all about getting kills (i.e., offense), much like basketball is all about getting buckets.

As evidence that Coach will sacrifice some offense for serve receive I cite Ali Frantti, Megan Courtney and Deja McLendon. Each saw reduced hitting percentages in second year at least in part because they were asked to receive serve. I also disagree with the premise. If you can't receive and pass well, it is difficult to score.
