Illinois takes down Louisville in four. Wilma Rivera is the starting setter for Louisville. It was nice to see her playing again. I think she was All-ACC setter last season. And Jelena Novakovic is playing well for Virginia. I didn't realize anyone was playing well for Virginia.

USC was a hot mess. Looks like Cami May didn't play at all tonight for USD...not sure if she was injured if the coach just wanted to use someone else (May hit .077 last night)

It makes you wonder what their problem is. They've won a fair number of matches this year. I do know that they were missing 2 of their best hitters until maybe a game or two ago; Lanier and somebody else. It could be that they were rusty. By the same token, their serve receive wasn't very good and their passing was iffy also.

I thought you were leaving for the night? LOL!
USC coach not playing to his players' strengths.
One USC fan speculated that Lanier and Botkin might consider transferring out of SC and go play for a contender next season.

IMO, Lanier waited a year too long.

IMO, Lanier waited a year too long. IDK. Maybe she should transfer to PSU. An elegant solution to PSU's terminal attacker issue.

Ain't that the truth! Can you imagine how good PSU would be with her???

IMO, Lanier waited a year too long. Although, if she was considering NE (as some speculate), her decision making was perfect.

Alabama State scored 42 against Stanford, Howard Scored 26 Against PSU. Oh yeah, Stanford swept Alabama State. On 24 November, Alabama State's RPI was 236 while Howard's was 169. Of course these stats are meaningless. Stanford won the first set 25-10. In the second and third set Hambly flooded the court with every player on the roster who was healthy enough to play. There was no point to running up the score.
Alabama State flew across the country for one quick match. I would like to see the tournament changed to eliminate extreme mismatches. Why not have two tournaments. In one tournament invite the best 30 teams.
In the other tournament invite the "automatic qualifiers"; conference winners of mid-major conferences. Put the two semifinalists into the main tournament. There would be some scheduling logistics but it could be done.

The best part of the basketball tourneys is the first weekend when we look for cinderella. So conferences get an auto qualifier-and an early exit. But for players on those teams, the chance to play the number 1 seed is exciting and maybe even a positive experience (eg: I got to play against the National champ!) But from a spectator's perspective you are surely correct. The first round for the top teams in Women's volleyball is not usually that interesting to watch. Women's volleyball is not as "deep" as men's basketball where the 64th team has at least a snowball's chance.
