Man everyone wants to bash great things if there’s any small opening I was trying to bring back the good times but then the Rose negativity again The guy is only the winning coach of all time and has brought psu 7 titles If your a psu fan bashing rose shame on you after all he has done for this program. My guess is a lot of these people arnt psu fans and just looking for opening to bash anything about them.

It's time to admit it folks. The head coach of the Penn State Women's Volleyball team is a grumpy old man. Yes, he is the most successful coach in the history of the sport, but he is still a grumpy old man and a sore loser. The explanation that he is honest with his team simply does not explain the public denigration of them and their efforts. It's hard to believe that any prospective recruit would be drawn toward a program headed by such a curmudgeon. Are there any among you who go back twenty or more years as fans who followed the program closely. (I have been a fan throughout, but never had the means to follow closely until the advent of the internet.) Was Russ Rose always this acerbic, or is this a more recent development and suggestive that it may be time for him to sit at home and keep people off his lawn? Seeyajohn: There was nothing different in that press conference, in terms of being critical of player performance, than I've observed, first-hand in previous press conferences, for years. Coach Rose is totally honest -- some would say "brutally honest" -- in describing his team's performances. He very rarely calls out a player by name, and when he does, they typically are in the media room (I would say always, but there may have been occasions when a player wasn't.) The players actually appreciate this -- in a recent press conference, Kendall White said they like the fact that he is so honest with them: "We didn't come here to be lied to" was the way she described it. And they will actually call themselves out in press conferences. I don't think it is "denigrating them," as you put it, but "telling it like it is." And it is a core part of his coaching philosophy, IMHO, and one which yields teams that know where they stand, know what they need to work on, and are focused to do that. As to your disbelief that prospective recruits would be drawn to him, well, the good news is that they continue to be. As jcvball22 said on VT in response to a similar negative view of Coach Rose: FWIW, I believe jcvball22 is a former player (not for Rose) who played on a National Championship squad. I think hers is a pretty good endorsement. To recap, you're totally entitled to your opinion, but I couldn't disagree with you more.

Seems every great player that has come through there has said same thing. That they love how rose does not sugar coat things he calls it as he sees it and if brutally honest and they love him for it. I have heard some say in past they didn’t pick there to be lied to. If U want to be babied and not have feelings ever hurt psu is probably wrong choice and you should choose somewhere else. But if your willing to challenge yourself to grow through it I believe it makes you a better player and person in general. Character building is not for everyone. Some just want everything easy.

I have know Russ for 30 plus years. He is not as you portray him. He speaks with purpose and the public comments that you find harsh are the acceptance of reality for all to know. This group of commenter's seem to feel that Russ should tell more about what is going on and he feels that he tells what he can and the rest is for the team
WHAT GOES ON IN SOUTH GYM STAYS IN SOUTH GYM, I. E. SOME THINGS HAVE NO CURRENCY IN THE PUBLIC ARENA. I commented on a players health struggles publicly and he was all over me about some things at not for public exposure.
RUSS PLAYS TO WIN. H e sees what is not working and blames HIMSELF for not knowing that in advance and preparing for it.
I had the privilege in the days prior to 2006 of interviewing the players that were leaving: Nearly everyone of them would say something like :That S.O.B. I would play for him for all the rest of my days if I could. He never failed to help me(but I had to do the work)and teach and never was gentle on the criticisms but he was real and I am better for that experience.
Enjoy this guy .He won't be around forever

One more thought: From her comments in that press conference, apparently, Nia Reed disagrees with you too, and she was the #12 ranked Senior Ace (and four-time NJ Player of the Year). She thanks Coach Rose for giving her a chance, says her experience meant the world to her, and says she wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. She said that after hearing his comments on the team's performance and the comment about the other player in the locker room. I guess she wasn't offended by any of it, because she responded with those comments. And she was a really highly-rated recruit. Psu has had many top recruits, all Americans, National players all say the same thing so I’m gonna believe them over fans

Before Seeyajohn starts looking out his window for a crowd of villagers armed with torches, rakes, scythes, and the like, lets remember that he shared an honest observation of how he perceived events. In that his observation brought out more information about the presser, that's a good thing.

He messaged me privately to express his thoughts and everyone is entitled to own beliefs I was just sharing mine back was all

Just watched the press conference video. OMG. Lets hope Parker doesn't want to transfer somewhere after getting ripped in public. It wasn't Parker Coach Rose was referring to -- it was something that was said (not by Parker) in the lockerroom prior to the press conference. I don't know how many ways I can explain this -- nothing to see here. Really. I was there (in the press conference) and I double-checked afterward. Coach Rose's reference to the other player was confusing, and for a moment I thought he was referring to Parker (which made no sense), but it was confirmed to me that he wasn't referring to either of the players in the press conference. And it wasn't a major thing (and no, I don't know what was said in the locker room.) I'm going to lock this thread, because I have to get on a plane shortly, and I don't want to land to an extended thread of more of this. But trust me , there really is nothing to see here.
