Well wrestling fans, when does the season begin?
I'm guessing the outlook is encouraging?

Well we lost a top guy at 125 (transferred to Rutgers). But lots of firepower returning from last year.

Coach Sanderson has been a superb recruiter at Penn State the past few years resulting in his string of National Championships. His ability to attract recruits on a national level has been extraordinary. Team rivalries include Ohio State and Iowa within the Big Ten and also Oklahoma State in the post-season tourney.

Pennsylvania is a wresting hotbed. 20 wrestlers on the current roster are from PA, including several starters.

Pennsylvania is a wresting hotbed. 20 wrestlers on the current roster are from PA, including several starters. Before Cael came to PSU, all those great PA wrestlers went to Iowa, OK State, Ohio State and may other places. Cael keeps them at home and cherry picks the best from other states.

Our first BiG match is against Indiana. I am hardly an "authority" but given that we have multiple #1 ranked Wrestlers in our line up, I guess that PSU would be tipped as the favorite for National Champion. We are weak at 125, but impressive in all other weight classes. Our last match we won a close one away at Lehigh even though we were missing two of our ranked competitors.

At the end of last season, because we would have five returning NCAA champions out of ten weight classes, it was assumed that Penn State would roll to another national championship this year. But things have changed. Our very highly rated 125 pounder, who missed the tournament due to injury last year, deserted during the off season and is now wrestling for Rutgers. We did gain a good 133 pound wrestler who might make it to the tournament this year but won't score many points for the team.
Meanwhile, Ohio State picked up two outstanding transfers to add to their, already formidable lineup. As a result, the Buckeyes now have a wrestler at each weight class who is ranked in the top ten at their weight class. Three of those are ranked number 1, and five others are in the top 5. So Ohio State is now the favorite to win both the B1G and NCAA championships this year.
Of course, wrestling is a sport where injuries happen, so much depends on who stays healthy. In any case, PSU and tOSU are far and away the favored teams this year to win the championship. Ohio State comes to Rec Hall for a dual on February 3. The annual match held at the BJC this year will occur on February 10 and feature the legendary Iowa Hawkeyes. Since Rec Hall is sold out for the season, the Iowa match provides an opportunity for other fans to see the team.

Damn. That's only an hour-and-a-half-away. It’s ten hours away from where I am in Florida, but I’m going because it’s the closest opportunity for me to see the team live. Additionally, a few of the PSU wrestlers who are currently redshirting will be entered along with the starters and a back up or two.
