Others have mentioned this announcer, I think, and I think he's really good. Maybe this is a well-known phrase, but it wasn't to me: describing the challenge faced by the Dominican Republic when it was down 21-19 (I think) but had just taken a point, he said something like "That's good, but now every point has to be a prisoner." Also, loved the audio of the DR coach speaking with his team. I don't speak Spanish, but you only had to know one word: His talk went something like this: "SpanishWord, SpanishWord, SpanishWord, Larson, SpanishWord SpanishWord, SpanishWord." She was the one Nebraska player that stood out to me above all others during that infamous semi-final match in Omaha, that Penn State won in five sets. Yes, that Larson time-out made me smile also. 2nd set in the bag. Tremendous rally, won by USA, at 23-20. 3rd set starting with same players, already 6-2 up

Easy 3rd set. Who will be USA's toughest opponents? Brazil v Canada coming up in an hour. Just switched to Italy v Poland, one set all, very even, but Poland look the stronger

Spoke too soon about the picture quality....some breaks in transmission and problems with sound. As I write, it's now gone off completely!! If anyone's watching, are you getting the same problems? I watched like 5 matches so far, and that one was the only problematic stream. Luckily, they figured it out. |

FYI - Clayton Lucas is calling the Italy-Poland match along with a Mark Lebedew, current/former coach of the Volleyroos (Australian MNT). I don't know if Clayton did any other matches today. He did not call the USA-Dom.Rep. match.

Netherlands/Germany was a good match with the Germans taking a close 5th set. Japan have just hammered China in the first set and are 9-5 in the second.

I enjoyed the Netherlands-Germany match.
I would never have predicted that Japan would sweep China. Granted China did not have their best lineup, but neither did Japan. China did not reach 20 points in any set. Wow!
The Japanese setter and libero were excellent; just a joy to watch.

Clayton has been doing all his matches with the Aussie coach Mark. Hopefully, they do the USA-Canada match later today.

USA v Canada under way with an English commentator - sounds like the same one who did the USA v DomRep yesterday. Two changes to the line-up; Drews in for Thompson at opposite setter and Parsons in for Larson at OH. Canada look better than DomRep, they're 14-12 up at the moment

Canada look better than DomRep, they're 14-12 up at the moment Poor Canada, they were up 21-16 in the first set and just like that, USA tie it up at 23 behind Tori Dixon's serving and USA win it 26-24. The next 2 sets were a slaughter. Obviously, Canada were not playing to win. They had Gray (an OH) at libero for the entire match. |
