I see that Courtney and Washington played today and the team did well. Micha was present, but Poulter led the sweep. USA at the top of the table in the preliminary round.

Megan got off to a slow start, but came on strong with excellent play in the last two sets. Her digs were solid and her passing was exceptional.

My prediction for tomorrow's roster vs Netherlands: Hancock at Setter Courtney at Libero Robinson & Bartsch-Hackley at OH Drews at Opp Ogbogu & Akinradewo at MB Well Micha did set but we had Wong Orontes at Libero. Another sweep and still at the top of the table.

Micah did very well! I think that was her first time doing her jump serve with the National Team as opposed to a jump float. It was great to see her wreaking havoc again!

Looks like it was Penn State day in the VNL as Washington, Hancock and Courtney played against the lilliputians of Thailand. Lots of long rallies and many USA blocks.

So am I mistaken or has Micha substantially changed her jump serve? By my recollection this version features a lower toss and shorter approach. Also, (subject to my biased view) I feel that Micha sets Drews a little better than Poulter or Carlini.

Also, (subject to my biased view) I feel that Micha sets Drews a little better than Poulter or Carlini. I think you might be right. In my admittedly biased view, Drews gets more good hits with Micha. The commentators were saying that Micha can curve her serve to the right, left or go straight with it. I also saw her do a change up that dropped in the middle cuz Germany was expecting a scorcher like she normally does. She's definitely improved it since PSU days. I think you might be right about the longer takeoff and higher toss. The depth on this team is amazing. They pretty much have interchangeable parts that are just about equally good. Amazing. Annie Drew is a hitting machine at opposite. I was watching the VNL 2019 semis and finals and Larson, who is one of their best players, didn't play either match. And they didn't miss a beat. IMHO, Haleigh Washington's blocking, specifically blocking recognition, has improved dramatically. When she was at PSU, she always blocked well in certain situations, but didn't seem to read the setter very well and so didn't wasn't always able to get two blocks up when needed. Tori Gorrell, wasn't as physically talented as Haleigh, but seemed to recognize what the other team was doing more quickly. It's so much fun to watch this team. The defense is so good, and the overall quality of play is so high, (at least most of the time ). Speaking of volleyball IQ and recognition: a commentator was laughing at one of the situations on court. There was a ball that was tipped by the other team, that the US team didn't recognize soon enough and so the ball went down for a point. But the commentator mentioned that Karch recognized the tip right away, even before the opposing hitter realized she was going to do it

Well Larson is like having a second Libero. She does everything well. Drews has improved a lot in this last 4 year cycle. We now have 2 legit Opposites. US is now ranked number 1 in the world. But one must be careful about getting too excited by VNL matches. Not everyone puts their best foot forward.

Erin Virtue said, in a podcast interview a few weeks back, that Karch will be mixing up his players in the first 3 weeks. Beginning week 4 he will be using only the 12 players tabbed for the Olympic roster, everyone else will be an alternate and travel to Tokyo together with the main squad. So, next week we'll finally see who are the true starters.

From what I've seen, not necessarily. I would assume that he's trying to do what's best for the team, development wise. He may put in some "2nd" stringers to give them experience in high pressure situations.(My uninformed opinion )

I think so, but Turkey look like they are about to lose to the Dominican Republic right now. DR up 2-1 in sets.

IMO, Karch is going to be tweaking his Olympic roster starters. Developmental strategy will resume after the Olympics. The FIVB Women's World Championship next year should be fun to see new up-and-coming players.
