According to Karch, Italy is playing with its second team as is China, Serbia, and some other teams. Olympics will be very competitive. Here is a 17 minute volleyballmag.com video of an interview with Karch. Some points of interest: If any player tests positive for Covid within two weeks before Olympics they are out. He was asked which player impressed him the most at VNL and his response was Orantes. volleyballmag.com/usa-coach-karch-kiraly-060921/

Did not see the Japan match but from the box score and highlights, it appears to have been a good one with Japan digging everything but losing in a closely contested sweep. Can those who saw the match confirm that Karch used the double sub? I see that Micha and Poulter both played, and that Edwards was in at Opp when Poulter was on. If the answer is "yes" did he do the double sub in all 3 sets?

Lots of long rallies. I think it was a good test and practice for USA. It's sad that Japan did not start their star setter and MB. I think only half their team were the expected starters.
Poulter and Thompson were doing the double sub for Micha and Drews in each set. Hill came in several times as a serving sub for Ogbogu (mostly). Who's Edwards?
Robinson struggled to pass a really good Kurogo serve, and was having issues connecting on the pipe attack.
USA needs to clean up some of their connections, but I'm sure they'll iron them out over the next couple weeks.

Thanks for the info. Edwards is a figment of my early onset mental infirmity.

I hope Karch keeps Micha and Drews paired together. To my untutored eyes, these two have clicked since 2019.

Hey are any of the psu players in Anaheim ?
Hord should be the only one.

Did not see the Poland match-work interferes (even on Juneteenth)-but from the box score it looks like Poland put up quite a fight in the first two sets. I gather from box score that the double sub was not employed?

Did not see the Poland match-work interferes (even on Juneteenth)-but from the box score it looks like Poland put up quite a fight in the first two sets. I gather from box score that the double sub was not employed? Just watched the replay. Micha's serve pulled out the first set as she hit back-to-back aces to close out the set. Dixon played at middle which was a little surprising. Thompson was a monster from the right and Hill got about four blocks in a row in the third set.
Only other thought was that Poland challenged the last point of the match (really didn't matter much) and it appeared to me that there was a touch on the play, but it was officially ruled a no touch. Maybe the official just wanted to go home!
