If it's Salima, why would so many players be in the portal? For me and my Penn State family is clearly only one choice to replace the great RR. If we want to continue as one of the top tier leaders in Woman's College Volleyball, then we have to have an individual that knows the PSU Community including fans and the hierarchy of Penn State to be successful. Salima was a fantastic recruiter , assistant coach while at PSU and at one point rumor had it as the next coach after RR. Something changed. It may have been some issues of personalities between Salima and others. To me regardless She is the very best candidate head and heals over a male counterpart. If she was the chosen one she show reach out to Nicole to tutor her along the way. Also gets her out of the Buckeye nation and gets her back where she belongs. Salima will undoubtedly achieve a continued level of success at Penn State. Sandy should not get overly emotional on this recommended choice. This is a clear an right path to follow because "WE ARE"

If it's Salima, why would so many players be in the portal? Good question. If Salima is still one of many candidates being considered the players may have gone to the portal not knowing (and still not knowing for sure) who the coach will be. It's good to check out their options based on not knowing the future at PSU. I believe they can always come back out of the portal and stay with Penn State if Salima (or someone they like) is hired.
My guess is Penn State would make a public announcement as soon as the new coach (assuming there will be a new coach) is officially hired.

You are correct about the portal -- it's not a "once you're in you can never come back" sort of thing. Having said that, I believe that once you're in, the school can terminate your scholarship, but they can't force you to transfer. I assume that if they terminated the scholarship, they also could (and would) remove you from the team roster.

This is a clear an right path to follow because "WE ARE" I love this. Right there with you. Fawcett in Ohio state colors just ain’t right. Figure out way to get Rockwell to accept then bring over a fawcett as assistant. If fawcett doesn’t work grab a Wilson or di errico. I would say glass but someone brought up she loves west coast and wasn’t sure she would want to come back to snow. Not sure how accurate that is or not. Last I read she was raising her kids in Orange County. I live here and I can tell you the weather is pretty nice all year.

Great career and much appreciation for what he did for Penn state and volleyball in general. That being said I’m shocked he didn’t get to pick his successor.

I'm happy for Russ, but sad for us. Feels weird to know he is finished.

Great career and much appreciation for what he did for Penn state and volleyball in general. That being said I’m shocked he didn’t get to pick his successor. The press release states the Russ will remain in an advisory role so I am sure he will have a voice as they search for his replacement. Also, Sandy has communicated that they are working on plans for his continued involvement with Penn State athletics. Congrats coach and ready for the next chapter of Penn State women’s volleyball.

1. A poster nome-de-plume TomClen on that volleyball site predicted this last night. "Thursday announcement after contract for additional services tied down." You don't think Russ is TomClen? Or maybe... lol.
2. Another poster left a 15-line CV of Russ's achievements. Lovely. Didn't know folks on that site had it in them to say such nice things, so effusively. If they keep this up, I might lurk more!
