1. A poster nome-de-plume TomClen on that volleyball site predicted this last night. "Thursday announcement after contract for additional services tied down." You don't think Russ is TomClen? Or maybe... lol. 2. Another poster left a 15-line CV of Russ's achievements. Lovely. Didn't know folks on that site had it in them to say such nice things, so effusively. If they keep this up, I might lurk more! TomClen is a Washington fan, and a very witty (and decent) guy. He also beat a dead horse to death multiple times with posts about Penn State's "cupcake" schedules in the NCAA tournament. I have forgiven him those trespasses, however. And we Penn State fans can always ask the question "You mean like Penn State's dominating sweep of Washington in the 2013 National semi-final match in an arena about 10 miles from Washington's campus?"

Ah yess good times. I believe I remember that being when Hancock kneeled down said hop on and then went to service line where she remained for a long time. God I loved her. What’s funny is just like major life events I remember exactly what I was doing when that went down cause I was at work. I remember telling someone I’m looking at psu and Washington is in trouble cause it look like Hancock has said enough and is now taking over the game. Her and bricio really were something to watch from service line during that period huh?

Emily Ehman has a tweet with a photo montage including the Russ Rose embrace of a sobbing Hancock. I feel like we all are Hancock today. ;( Knowing it was coming prepared me only a mite.

I remember exactly where I was too, but it's easier for me in this instance, because I was in that arena.

It was glorious watching us play one of our best matches of the tourney in a sea of Husky fans. The parents were also a hoot and we had a great time at the after party!

I was at work and I remember I glanced at phone then I decided to go outside and take break when I saw what was happening. That service run was one of greatest things ever. Washington fans were in it and they blinked once and was like what the hell just happened. That’s how quick it developed. I mean from a pure service line perspective that had to be one of greatest service runs I’ve ever personally seen

Today should be about rose but they do need to get on this permanent coaching solution soon as it seems the whole league is in the portal. My opinion if there is anything to get Rockwell out of retirement give her whatever she wants. If there’s not then so be it. That’s just me. Also really really really would like to see fawcett back in blue and white

That Schumacher-Cawley has been named interim coach indicates to me that Penn State expects the search to last 2-3 weeks or more. It would shock me if Sandy Barbour/Lauren Rhodes haven't already gauged Rockwell's interest in the job. If it was Rockwell, it would be a quick hire and little need to appoint an interim. Therefore, I think Rockwell won't be the next coach. Salima may have decided she didn't want the lifestyle change and, if that's the case, I completely respect her decision.

Well, as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. I hope coach enjoys the next chapter of his life, may he find happiness, I know I will miss him and his pen flipping. Thank you coach Rose for all the happiness you have given us.

Thank you coach Rose for all the happiness you have given us. You have raised a very important point, which I had overlooked until your post: All else being equal, the job must -- MUST -- go to the candidate that can flip a pen a la Rose. I am totally serious here.

The timing is absolutely right for Russ to retire. He is clearly the GOAT of women's volleyball coaching and a true legend in the sport. Whoever the replacement is will have a tremendous challenge.
Russ succeeded despite being in a location that is hardly a hotbed of volleyball and where the fan base is good but not great. The women's college volleyball landscape has broadened with lots of competition for the best high school players and we are in an information age where the best will be universally known.
If, as it appears, PSU loses its COVID eligible seniors, next season will start with a relatively empty cupboard and low expectations for the season. So, it is going to take a truly exceptional individual to come in and build a team that maintains the legacy of Penn State women's volleyball.
I hope the administration is successful in finding that person!
