She's actually pretty positive about the KSC hiring -- not that Salima being positive should be a surprise. I do hope they substitute someone else for her going forward, because it's really weird, IMHO, to have a Power 5 coach with a weekly show not produced by their employer-university, but rather by an ostensibly non-partisan magazine covering all of volleyball. I do realize that John Cook appears regularly on his daughter's show, but that's a Nebraska-centric show.

Salima at Notre Dame is tough to take.
Welcome Katie and let's go Lions!

I don't know enough about KSC to prefer one or the other, but I just don't like seeing Fawcett at tOSU and Salima at ND. I don't mind most other schools, but those 2 are hard to take. Thanks for the link to that interview. I've seen some concerns noted about Katie's recruiting, but I have loved Blossom, Hord, Parker, Hampton among others, so I don't really share those concerns. Excited for those coming in and will enjoy watching this team develop in the wake of Rose's departure. Following a legend is not easy, so I'm throwing all my support to Katie.

Nyline, if Salima was chosen as head coach would you post that you would rather PSU had chosen KSC? I'm hoping things work out for KSC and I expect they eventually will. I love your optimism but I think your loyalty/defense of KSC is a little too early. I want to first see how things go this fall.

I love your optimism but I think your loyalty/defense of KSC is a little too early. I want to first see how things go this fall. If Salima had been chosen (and again, I don't believe she was among Penn State's top candidates, and I believe KSC was among Penn State's top candidates), I probably would not have posted that I preferred KSC (other than, possibly, in response to a direct question). But that's not the situation we're in. KSC was chosen, and I'm voicing my opinion that the choice of KSC was the right choice. I don't think it's too early to voice that opinion -- though I agree it's too early to know if I am correct in having that opinion. I've been saying all along that time will tell. I still hold that opinion as well. p.s. I don't mind at all that others disagree with my opinion, and that some/many would have preferred Salima.

I understand that Russ Rose has given alot of credit to assistant coaches who handled recruiting, but I don't think we really know who to credit for recruiting success. I think when recruiting fails, the Head Coach gets blamed (e.g. "Russ Rose can't close the deal on elite OHs anymore" has been a frequent refrain in recent years). I don't know how to allocate success. I would assume that the final decision on who to pursue rested with Russ Rose. The day-to-day execution of the recruiting was in the hands of assistants. Closing the deal was, I assume, in the hands of Russ Rose. I'm not saying Salima wasn't instrumental in recruiting success (and failure) -- I'm just saying I don't know how you apportion either of those metrics.

But mathematical impossibility for Coach K to have had A ROLE in identification of/recruitment of players who committed before she was hired at PSU. Can we agree to that? Only been with the team 4 seasons.

I am excited and happy for the program and Coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. As I mentioned in the previous post (prior to the hire), it is apparent that Coach Katie has positive relationships with the players. I was hoping that the new head coach would be someone that played or previously coached for the program. With Coach Katie - double win! Looking forward to the 2022 season!
