I just saw this tweet from Dennis. Best of luck to him, he was particularly considerate to my mom.

Best wishes to Dennis. He has been a key factor in so much of PSU's success.

Well, any team that wants a coach who can improve blocking...there's your guy.

... The drop off in recruiting success over the past few years does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about Katie. I would feel better if she had been a go-getter who brought in some top talent.
I think that the dropoff in recruiting was more a function of the assistant coaches staying at PSU since it is my understanding that they did the majority of the recruiting not RR. If you look at the assistant coaches in 2017, they were
Salima Rockwell Craig Dyer Jon Perry (operations) Dennis Hohenshelt (volunteer).
In 2018 they were:
Dennis Hohenshelt Katie Schumacher-Cawley Chris Rose Virginia Pham.
So the two major assistant coaches changed completely from 2017 to 2018 which means that the assisant coach doing the recruiting changed. I also think that the assistant coaches changed quite a bit from 2013-2014 (not positive about that, but I think so). It obviously didn't hurt the 2014 class , but I think it hurt the recruiting after that. The 2018 class of Hord et all, was excellent, but filling in the pieces around them never happened. PSU have been very fortunate to have two GREAT liberos that overlapped in the last 6 years. But where PSU is lacking is the hitting, as EVERYBODY knows.
My opinion is that the biggest hire KSM will make is the assistant coach who will go out and recruit. This assistant coach needs to be a good recruiter and also an assistant coach that will stay around for a while. THAT is where the rubber hits the road. Granted, KSM will have to coach well , but without the horses, it doesn't matter how good the head coach is. KSM? Clear your autocomplete cache or you’re going to hear a knock at the door.

Was looking for some videos of Coach Katie playing back in the day and came across this gem.
I’ve mentioned this in a previous post, that watching from the sidelines, it’s apparent that Coach Katie has positive relationships with the players (and has positive energy overall). After watching the video (above) and listening to a couple of recent interviews with Coach Katie, it’s also apparent that she has a great sense of humor. For all you haters out there, Penn State volleyball is in great hands with this coaching staff! looking forward to the 2022 season and the future of the program!
