I think it's a smart pick. If I'm not mistaken, he's been in charge of recruiting at IU and they have had very good classes the past few years. Unfortunately, they haven't stayed at IU or have underperformed if they did stay. If he can recruit classes that good (15th ranked class this year at IU by Prep? I could be mistaken with the number but a good class), then PSU will be back to its power house status in no time! I've also heard good things from a girl I know that plays for IU, the athletes really respect him! I think it's a smart pick too (if true), with the one caveat on rankings of recruiting classes: some observers believe that the post-John Tawa PrepVolleyball rankings are rather haphazard. Tawa and PrepVolleyball were criticized, always, because if you rank one player higher, you inevitably are ranking another player lower. Reasonable minds can differ. But he had a system, did a lot of legwork, and involved a lot of people. My understanding is that current PrepVolleyball doesn't do nearly the same amount of legwork or involve anywhere near the same number of people. FWIW, I no longer subscribe. Oh I completely agree. When John left Prep I unsubscribed too. But the rankings have at least a little worth to them. Players like Layla Blackwell, Tommi Stockham, Emily Fitzner (spelling on all their names?) were excellent athletes in their prep days, but they either left (the first two), or haven't been to developed as well as they likely could have (Fitzner).

DG's Twitter photo leaves no question that it's a shot of Rec Hall. End zones emblazoned PENN STATE clearly visible through my cataracts.

If there’s a press conference on Tuesday, is there a way for us to watch or listen? There must be for something this important, right?

This could innocently be KSC's intro to the local media. But it seemed to me that anyone could have called as asked for an interview, so I also thought there must be something more. Now is DG as AC or AHC sufficient? We'll see. I also suspect anyone there could record and post later. Hint, hint.

I doubt there will be a way to listen to the press conference live, but I’ll be there tomorrow and will record audio and transcribe it afterward.

Not only is Daniel Gwitt a Penn State graduate, he was coached by former Penn State Men's Volleyball standout, Robert Pierce (as was Olympian Matt Anderson, currently the 8th highest paid male volleyball player in the world). Both of Robert Pierce's daughters, Kendall Pierce and Lainy Pierce, were captains of the Penn State Women's Volleyball team.

I don't think any of the hiring so far for PSUWVB from top to bottom has been very exciting or buzzworthy. KSC and staff will have to bring some buzz to the program through the team's play.

They'll have that opportunity. Personally, I'm optimistic. Certainly, hiring an assistant like Jordan Larson is more buzzworthy. But will she be a better assistant coach (with all that entails) than Gwitt or Toron? I have no idea. Being a great player often has nothing to do with coaching success. Coach Rose was never a great player, but he certainly was a great coach. John Cook wasn't a great player. John Dunning wasn't a great player. Kelly Sheffield wasn't a great player. Time will tell.
