With Katie Shumacher-Cawley named as the 3rd head coach in the history of Penn State Women's Volleyball, it seems fitting to start a 2022 Season thread, so here it is. We've updated the Player Matrix to reflect all the changes of which we're aware -- leaving Kaitlyn Hord (who reportedly is in the Transfer Portal), and Katie Clark and Jonni Parker (whose plans we don't know anything about) as players who could return for a Covid 5th season, but who may not, for one reason or another. If you see any mistakes, please let us know. Here's the link (it's also available from the menu bar at the top of the Forum home page -- PSU Rosters): dignittanyvolleyball.com/player-matrix/

BTW, one of our members suggested that people who find Katie Schumacher Cawley to be too cumbersome to type should try this: KSC.
Works for me.

Also, just added an Unofficial 2022 Roster. Kaitlyn Hord, Jonni Parker and Katie Clark are all on it, but it's certainly possible that none of them will play for Penn State in 2022. Here's the link: dignittanyvolleyball.com/2022-roster/

Penn State is holding an introductory press conference for KSC next Tuesday at Rec Hall. Sandy Barbour will also speak to the media. Drop your questions for either of them below and I may ask a couple.

Drop your questions for either of them below and I may ask a couple. Question: Does KSC think both assistant coaches will be hired and working by the end of January? Question: Does KSC anticipate bringing in any players via the Transfer Portal? (I realize these are pretty obvious questions).

First, E, Thanks for asking!!
I'm imagining she has something to say other than just HI.
But here's some thoughts:
How stuffed has her inbox been with messages from folks interested in the opportunity here?
How long has KSC been so very chill in expressing excitement? I mean, compared to Lima, I almost wanted the PSU interviewer to take her pulse. Lol. Did it rub off sitting beside Coach Rose? You may need to rephrase this.
What are her observations about the challenges of recruiting at PSU (among other things, there's been discussion elsewhere that LA and Hotlanta have more pull than a place like State College) and the changes over the last 3 years?
Does one dare to ask if Dennis will have any role at PSU?
What are her thoughts about setting this season?

For Sandy: could you share the institution’s commitment to women’s volleyball? Is the university investing at a level to keep the program among the most elite in the country generally and in terms of facilities, staff salaries, etc.?

Could there be an announcement coming of AHC at the presser? There is talk that an Aird AC at IU, former PSU MVB player with HC experience in WVB, has left IU. Apparently did a lot of club work in SoCal.

Indeed. He is the subject of speculation.

Indeed. He is the subject of speculation. Though I could be wrong, I believe that speculation is accurate, and that this guy will be an assistant coach for PSU WVB. Of course, as we've seen, things can change.

If so, it's an interesting pick. On the one hand, the candidate comes from an underperforming program...meaning not even 50% W/L. On the other hand, the recent time has been spent in the B1G, meaning that there's an awareness of the level, style, speed of the game played in the B1G v e.g., the Atlantic 10. Interesting debate to have at.

Interesting debate to have at. I think it's a smart pick. If I'm not mistaken, he's been in charge of recruiting at IU and they have had very good classes the past few years. Unfortunately, they haven't stayed at IU or have underperformed if they did stay. If he can recruit classes that good (15th ranked class this year at IU by Prep? I could be mistaken with the number but a good class), then PSU will be back to its power house status in no time! I've also heard good things from a girl I know that plays for IU, the athletes really respect him!

I've also heard good things from a girl I know that plays for IU, the athletes really respect him! I think it's a smart pick too (if true), with the one caveat on rankings of recruiting classes: some observers believe that the post-John Tawa PrepVolleyball rankings are rather haphazard. Tawa and PrepVolleyball were criticized, always, because if you rank one player higher, you inevitably are ranking another player lower. Reasonable minds can differ. But he had a system, did a lot of legwork, and involved a lot of people. My understanding is that current PrepVolleyball doesn't do nearly the same amount of legwork or involve anywhere near the same number of people. FWIW, I no longer subscribe.
