UMD took down the Buckeyes in straight sets. Yesterday was not an anomaly. What I have seen with OSU is that tend to fall apart after getting swept by us the last few years(this year one match in 4) but then when it comes time for post season, they really get it back together. Case in point last year against Wisconsin in Regional Semi's. Still have to give Maryland their props at their improvement this half of season.

I fully expect the "hurt" coming for the Knights Just back from the game. There were so many PSU fans, it was like a home game for the Lions. Still not putting away teams like Rutgers easily. I think coach Rose will institute tough practices coming week for Iowa and Minny.

Slacker staffs aside, we've posted our write-up for the PSU-Maryland Match. Here's the link: Terps Shell Lions (In 1st Set) – Drop Match 3-1Forum posters will notice that our slacker staff came up with what we think is a great idea (particularly because it involves virtually no work and no thought on our part): we've including some of the posts from the match thread to reflect the fans thoughts about the match. We have a link to the thread, but we didn't include the posters' handles. If you think we should include them, let us know. After giving your comment above some thought, I have come to the conclusion that I believe it a good idea to include the poster's handles. It might be useful in attracting more new members to help grow the forum. People might want to join out of curiosity to see what other interesting things the poster's have to say and possibly have their own comments posted someday. The increase in membership will in turn promote more healthy discussions/comments. As you stated in an earlier post, the forum could use a little more growth.

I'm going to open a thread on this topic to see what others think, but all your points are well taken. One thing is that the forum has alot of "lurkers" who view but don't post, as well as infrequent posters. The main site gets approximately 6,000 unique users per month (that probably translates to 4000 individuals per month) and approximately 39,000 unique users per 12 months. So there's alot of traffic (at least relative to what I anticipated when I started the site in 2009), but many people don't jump in to the conversation.

Your right about that I am one who only occasionally posts But I do read everyday. About the Rutgers game I was there last night and the Penn State fans did outnumber the Rutgers fans I also had a chance to talk to Laura Broerman and asked her if her or any of her team looked at the Dignittany site according to her she did not know what it was.

Those numbers are much higher than I would have anticipated. Truth is, I was a "lurker" for some months before deciding to jump in. I didn't want to embarrass myself and maybe that's what other "lurkers" feel. However, the vast majority of posters I've met on this forum since I joined are very inviting and made me feel right at home. Though, the main reason I joined was to thank you, Psumaui, Cross5, and some others who really make the forum a nice place to visit for info.

It's nice to have people who actually attend the games who could provide insight like you just did. I'm on the West coast, so my only source for all things PSU is via my internet connection.

I came across the "main site" back in 2011 shortly after my "discovery" of women's college volleyball. I wanted to make comments and succeeded in making a few, but it was awkward. The forum has been fantastic, but it seems as if the "membership" is stagnant and those who participate have been limited--perhaps because the "volleytalk model" is intimidating and they don't necessarily want to become part of something like that.
I have noticed that participation on the forum started to increase about three weeks ago, when I was on vacation of essentially off-line. I see another growth spurt or two before the end of the season, but I think the membership--and pool of potential participators seems capped at however many people are on that two-page list.
This is a very welcoming and friendly place. I don't think I've seen any "manifestations of meanness" that are common on volleytalk. Will more participants bring that? What to do if it does?
I do value this forum and I participate more here than I do on volleytalk.

tjb, who helped enormously setting up this forum, and also putting in the new Theme for the main site, runs what I think is the best sports-site on the planet -- PennStateHoops.com. It's certainly the best Penn State sports site. He told me that even though that site has many more members (it's also much older -- approximately 2000/2001), and some threads with over 1 million page views, a relatively small number of posters make the majority of the posts (I think he told me 25-50 posters). So I think one thing is that people enjoy reading the commentary, but either don't have the time to respond, or don't think they have anything to add to the discussion, or are concerned they will look foolish or somehow not knowledgeable. So although there are specific people who haven't posted on this Forum who I know well and know would add a great deal to the discussion, I'm happy with the place we are in now. Interestingly, some of the highest-traffic weeks have been for lesser matches. Another thing is that although getting more people to post probably enriches the forum experience for everyone, there's no guarantee that more is better. But, overall, I hope we continue to grow as a community. I know I learn something positive in every thread.

I think the problem with VolleyTalk is that there are too many fans from many teams from various conferences all vying for attention on the same threads. It becomes a madhouse at times. You post a question or comment and come back 1 minute later to find 3 pages have gone by and you're comment is forgotten or lost. I don't believe Dignittany will become like that, at least I hope not. Anyway, the deeper PSU plays into the tourney, the more people will be compelled to join in the discussions.

Almost forgot to send a shout-out to TJB for their work in getting this forum up and running. It's interesting how few posters are the most active on the hoops site, I could see how that makes sense. Definitely agree with you on the last paragraph.
