The proliferation of streaming matches has got to be a help. I can imagine coaches sending "local" fans to record matches in their respective areas. It may be happening already.

The sharing of video among conference teams takes place. The machine that Coach Rose has in place for preparation for the NCAA tourney may be one of the best out there. It starts early in the season.
He has eyes and ears out there all over the country and relies on a central core of trusted minds as the team narrows down its opponents. Frankly, Russ just out works and out prepares most other coaches.
The PSU teams have also had a history of having a balanced attack that presents multiple options to win the match up battles.

And especially this year, so many options. Front line has everything -- athleticism, experience, variety of styles and attacks, and depth, what amazing depth. And I would bet Frantti, Washington and Whitney all come in significantly better than last year because they've had that full year of starting experience and a whole offseason to work on weaknesses.

I think you're right. The pessimist in me still is concerned about how the setting will turn out. Without intending to belabor the obvious, by last season, Micha was a very, very good college setter.

Yes we all loved to watch Micha play but Bryanna (BW from now on) wouldn't have been recruited by Russ if she wasn't pretty good herself.

The latest recruiting rumors (not confirmed by any means) has PSU showing interest in Amanda Phegley 6-4 MH, Holly Campbell 6-3 OH, Brook Nunviller 5-8 L, and Haley Warner 6-2 RS for the 2018 class. Each appear to be truly elite players who I would gladly welcome to PSU. I will keep my fingers crossed that there is mutual interest here.

Here's what I posted at FightonState.com: Class of 2018 Libero from Tampa-Berkley Prep. She is the first commit for 2018. Probably say to say we won't take a L/DS in 2017 since we've got 3 in 2016 already. She was MVP of the 2014 AAU Junior National Champsionship in the 14-Open division. Her AAU team repeated as 2015 champs in their age bracket, and she was an All American in their bracket/division. Don't know much else about her. I don't think she's on PrepVolleyball's Sophomore Soph-79 list. If you can deal with the music, here are some highlights from the 2015 AAU championships of her. I mean, the other issue is that we're all a bunch of men potentially watching a girl who's, like, 15...

Wow, as much as I like Dom seeing videos of Jena Hampton and Kendall White raise the bar for libero play at PSU. We are now attracting truly elite back row players. Hampton is a terrific start for another great recruiting class. I am very impressed. Actually, we will be getting four L/DS players in 2016 but who's counting?

I am not sure if we can tell if Jenna can be as good as Dom or lacey was for PSU at this point; but just for the fact that she is only a high school sophomore tells me that she can become the next great DS/L for PSU as she will improve her skills for couple of more years till she joins the team in 2018. From the video, it looks she already has a very good sense of the court and she anticipates and reacts very well, which is something you cannot teach. Of all the DS/L who are already on the team and who'll be joining next year, I think Jenna looks to be ahead of them all at her age. So, I do expect her to be the starting Libero when she joins the team in 2018.

We HAD a great prospect as sophomore from one of the best junior programs. We HAD the Gatorade POY from California. We HAD one of the hardest hitting prospects for 2 yeara. None of them are on the team anymore. Jenna looks and sounds good, as does Kendall White, Taylor's sister etc. Positions are a long long way from being earned or set if you are a recruit. Welcome Jenna, be prepared to battle every day you are a Nittany Lion.

Not so fast Tom, I wouldn't overlook Kendall White who will be a junior when Jena arrives. She is not quite as quick as Jena but seems to have a good sense of anticipation and will see plenty of playing time too. We are really upgrading our defensive talent.

I agree, as we still have three more years till we actually see how good Jenna can be. But whenever there's a newly committed recruit, we evaluate their potential and talent based on what's available. So, I am just expressing my opinion that she looks to be a real deal on the video. I also know others look good in their video as well. They are all committed to Penn State, so whoever emerges, I will be excited to see them perform. Hope they can also attract players with good potential for other positions as well
